Motor details
« on: August 07, 2006, 09:39:12 am »

Hi All,

Can anyone give me some details on th motor that's in the boat I've just bought please. Here's what's on the label, items shown here in square brackets are in boxes on the label.

MANOPERM SUPER 5-POL

6V  = Leer [24A] [9000] U/min
         Load [3A] [5000] U/min

[160 CMP]    [90oC] [2 ohm]

V Max = 9 3A    5 [4.5] A

Made in Germany

I guess it's a German Manoperm motor! I can follow the rev speeds (U/min) and the current ratings at 'leer' (no load) and 'load', but there seems to be a heck of a current difference for the extra 4k revs. The V Max makes sense too. But what about the 160 CMP and the other details.

The motor is powered at 6V, and direct driving a 2" 4 blade brass prop in a steerable kort, and gives a good scale speed, not fast but fast enough. If I should ever need to replace the motor, what current equivalent would I need.

Thanks
Andy

are you sure the motor is not a monoperm,  these are good quality little model motors, - part of the range of motors in the 'perm' range,  these include, milliperm, monoperm, hectoperm and decaperm...

the motors are quite expensive in comparison to the likes of  the japanese mabucchi motors but they are good......
as far as i am aware they are still available via the 'better' modelshops.....

Thanks, it could well be Monoperm - the label is peeling off in that corner!  :)

Hi just been out to workshop to read the label.  The 24 is 0.24 amps.
just before the 90 degs.  it says 8W (watts)
Excellent motor and over 60% efficient.
good luck.  Roy

The Hague Model Boat Club http://www.hmbc.nl/engframe.html is an excellent source for tech info on electric motors and not just monoperms. Incidentally, I finally cured a persistant interference problem only by swopping monoperms for MFA motors. They monoperms seemed to be (electrically) very dirty. Admittedly they were several years old and perhaps newer models are improved.

BarryM,
Not having had my hands on a 'monoperm' motor I can't say for certain, but, probably the biggest difference in the 'interference' side of them is no interference suppression.  The 'other' thing to take a look at is how 'dirty' is the older motor (inside), and how worn.  I have had my hands on an 'MFA' motor and do agree with you about them, they are nice.

PS - Didn't tell you anything new, did I...

Doc,

The monoperms in question were a pair with only a few running hours on them and in clean (physical)condition. The clean and dirty wiring was seperated as far as space would permit and I had them choked and capacitor-ed until the water was almost lapping over the decks! Still the servos didn't like it until I put a couple of MFA in with nowt but normal capacitor supression and no chokes. Peace was then restored. I have also found that MFA have been very helpful over the 'phone. I know where I'm getting my motors next time.
