So, who's go is it? I suggest that we wait for the question-setter to confirm that the answer is right before we leap in with another poser, otherwise it will get all out of hand. One mystery plane at a time is plenty.

Your go Rick , the Grumman was a HU16 Albatross  (correct about Canadian SAR though ::))

OK, here's another from the history books! Not quite the first RFC aircraft, but close. I need the FULL correct designation of this plane.

This particular aircraft - from which I have, of course, removed the tail number - was a first in another way. Bonus points for the "first".

Looks like a Be2b to me, in 1914 3 squadrons of these machines were sent to France as the first British aircraft so deployed.......... :o.........Smudge

It would be cruel not to give it you, Smudge. It's actually a BE2a of No 2 Squadron RFC. Flown by Lt Harvey-Kelly, who landed at Amiens at 08:20 on 13 August 1914, No 347 was the first British aircraft to land on the continent after the outbreak of war.
