Its an Avro 504, probably K but the split cowl means that it might have got a rotary in there!, in which case I couldn't guess the type letter, and it might be a field fit

Don't know where, but there seems to be a speedboat below - which I also don't recognise

Correct! - Avro 504K Science Museum, London

Avro 504K biplane D7560 with 130hp Clerget engine no. 52090;

The Avro 504 first appeared in 1913 and was in service with the Royal Flying Corps during WWI.

As early as November 1914, three 504s carried out a 'mass' bombing raid on German airship construction
sheds at Friedrichshafen. In 1915 the Avro was adapted for training duties and remained in this role until
the late 1920s.

This particular one which can be found on display in Making the Mordern World in the Science Museum
was made in 1917 inventory number 1920-52. [source sciencemuseum]

Engine is a Napier Lion, which puts the boat in the 20s or 30s

Depending on fuel about 450 HP (80 octane stuff) to 1000 HP (potent brew) Schneider Trophy S6

For some reason "Miss England" leaps to mind

This must have been a strange thing to fly especially with "Boats"?
Don't suffer from sea sickness or is it air sickness ?

Can't remember the name/type, but isn't it a Kriegsmarine autogyro, towed behind WW2 U-Boats for target spotting?

The gryocopter is a Flettner - can't remember its detail.
Used as over-the-horizon spotting for u-Boats - Sorry Gottfried, we had to dive, but thanks for the warning!

The plane filling up is interesting - it has a Siskin look, but is a 2 seater.
Its an Armstrong Whitworth plane, with one off their engines, and its carrying out tests on HP leading edge slats (the big hinge fairings under the top wing LE)
It looks also as if the fin has been made much higher - again because of the low speed regime its flying in

'part from that you have me stumped

Yes - it's an Armstrong Whitworth. Want a clue? Maps connect both its purpose and name.

Correct! - Avro 504K Science Museum, London

As early as November 1914, three 504s carried out a 'mass' bombing raid on German airship construction
sheds at Friedrichshafen.

Sorry Martin, the Sopwith Tabloid made an earlier bombing raid in WW1  :P

"On 22 September 1914, Tabloids mounted the first raid by British aircraft on German soil. In their most famous mission, two RNAS Tabloids flying from Antwerp on 8 October 1914, raided the German Zeppelin sheds at Cologne and Düsseldorf. The Cologne target was not located, the railway station being bombed instead, but the shed at Düsseldorf was struck by two 20 lb bombs dropped from 600 ft and the Zeppelin Z.IX was destroyed."

That is a Fieseler Storch, but the Gyrocopter is a Focke-Achgelis FA330 Bachstelz (Wagtail) Rotor-Kite.Focke-Wulf built about 300 of them in about 1940. Took about 18 minutes to get into the air, but a heck of a lot longer to get back down to the U-Boat, hence not a success.  Just a guess,is it an Armstrong-Whitworth Atlas ?   O0......Smudge.

Yes, Smudge, it's an AW Atlas.

Introduced in 1927, it was the first purpose-built army cooperation aircraft. The hook for ground-to-air message retrieval is just visible below the fuselage roundel.
