Thanks Andy. Can't claim to know anything about the aircraft - just down to research on the web.

BTW, the "father" of the autogyro, Ken Wallis, lives nearby. He is the Honorary President of our Austin Seven club here in Norfolk, and puts on a flying display for us every year - not bad for a 92-year-old!

Anyway, heres another oldie.

With ugly legs like that It has to be the Curtiss P40, and given the arrangement of the cowling I'm going to go for the P40F variant.

Just to clarify the Curtiss P40 from earlier, The RAF (and others) used the name Tomahawk for models equivalent to the P-40B and P-40C, and the name Kittyhawk for models equivalent to the P-40D and all later variants. The photo I used was captioned "Tomahawk" in the book.

Don't worry, Andy, so long as the success goes to an Andrew and TAP (total aviation person)!

How about this?

Hawks & throttles

I know that a large batch of fighters was ordered by the French AF, and was taken over by the RAF on the fall of France - I think they were either P40s or Grumman "Martlets" and had the normal French throttles working "forward to close".
I think they were modified to reverse this! - prolly a matter to removing the wongle-beam that  the US maker must had fitted!

On the whats whis above there are points for the engines tooooo

Short S31/M4 half scale Stirling to prove the design before the full size aircraft were built, it's the props that give it away.......... :o............Smudge

I thought there was something not right about the prop at top of engine, never noticed the scale of the ladder, that would have been a clue.
