Martin`s model is a type that we had about four of in the club and I just cant remember the name . Made from EPP foam and covered with duct-tape, great for combat, bouncable in crashes.  Banshee ? Kerfuffle ? Manic ??? Dont know , was/is UK kit.   Can we get back on track, I think I`m owed one ! Bonus if you name the missile.

Looks like a Belvedere - one of the RAF's worst ever helicopters - lifting a Bloodhound missile. Both built by Bristol.

Thanks Arrow. Here's another historic one. Name the aircraft and the famous ship.

Plane is a Fairey Seafox, and a little research shows that one was deployed on HMS Ajax, so she must be the ship

Agreed, I was the only one that didnt have an oil soaked "sponge-cake bendy-plane" , prefered the satisfying crunch of balsa in the heather O0  Funny to see the combateers hitting each other in flight and still carry on flying after  (usually) recovery.   Balsa is kind of newish too, my first was split cane and silk ! {-) {-) {-)

You're right, Andrew. The distinctive "trunked" single funnel gives it away.

Next!

I confess I didn't see or know that!

I googled Seafox and found what cruisers it was on, no Achilles or Exeter, so Viola! it must be Ajax

Have a go at this one, dunno why they stuck the broomhandle in at this angle!

for a bonus:  what do they stand for?

When you know the answer you will know what the question means ;D

Vickers 161, you do like your things to be only one ever made don't you? ;)

The broom handle is a COW gun

I am a mere grasshopper among the experts!

I do, I do like the unusual and interesting, and the knobbly, understimated and weird

Just butting in ( no change there!), how many Zeppelins where actually shot down by aeroplanes?
1,000 bullets into a Zeppelin wouldn't do that much damage I would have thought...... but what do I know?!   :P

Martin,

"Planes are just yachts with double sails"

They made special tracer bullets with a lot of WP* stuffed in the tailcone so they flamed as they flew
*white phosphorus  (96 bullets, I think to a "Big" Lewis drum)

several "Zeppelins" were shot down by them and hundreds of observation baloons since they were filled with hydrogen

The COW gun fired shells, don't know about the provision to down airships or how they were fused
Prolly the most well-known was shot down by Lt. Warneford over Cuffley for which he got a VC (it was actually a Schutte-Lanz, but who was counting?)

The wassis is some version of Boeing F4 something which I could give chapter and verse if I had my book on the family in hand

Martin, hydrogen gas in the Zeps ! I reckon normal tracers would be enough have the German crew panicking and shoot up as quick as possible out of range. No doubt many weird and wonderfull  incendiary devices were tried. Zeppelins could fly much higher than winged aircraft.

Grasshopper,

No, that was me doing "humble" as a novice among the shaolin experts.
I had three exact and authoritative answers in minutes

I class you as an expert too :)
