OK. Super Cigale. Super in our part of France is slang for farmyard Calvados. Fearsome stuff about 80% alcohol.

This one's easy, vies with the Tigercat and Hornet for the title of best looking twin-engined fighter.

Not quite a Westland Whirlwind. Might it be a Westland Welkin?

It certainly is. I thought it was a Whirlwind at first, but obviously different. First time I've seen a photo of a Welkin.

Here's a nice easy one for the weekend

Could either be a prototype Camel...or possibly one of the 2F.1 variants.
Its got a slightly more rounded leading surface on the tail  and a few extra fuselage adjustments that make me think its probably the 2F

Yes... I think Mr Arrow5 might have it... Its the dogleg in the tail that gives it away as a snipe, and the cowl of course but most the distinguishing features are hidden.

We shall wait for RickF to confirm but It can't be much other than a Snipe, as a believe it was the last rotary engined aircraft Sopwith got accepted by the RAF...but I stand to be corrected.

Yes, it's a Snipe, photographed at Northolt in 1918.

Alex, I think they may have been the last rotary engined (Bentley BR2) aircraft from any manufacturer introduced into the RAF (late 1918). They were the RAF's standard single-seat fighter until 1926.

Over to you, Arrow5.

OK Rick, Here is an oddity with a strange engine arrangement, nicknamed after a kitchen appliance.

That is a: Douglas XB-42A "Mixmaster"

Designed in an American attempt to build a faster and larger payload medium bomber than the Mosquito.
That big ol' prop at the back caused too much adverse yaw in straight and level flight, they spent from 1944 until late 1946- early 1947 trying to sort it out but eventually gave it up as a lost cause with the advent of the Jet engine which made the Mozzie obsolete anyway.

:D
