This isn't one of the transport versions of the Tu-4, is it? That nose has a very Russian look to it.

Yup, Tu-75. The Russians built pirate copies of the B29 designated Tu-4, and this is one of several abortive transport derivatives.

This new picture is further evidence of American efforts to prove that putting the engine in the back is not a good idea. I should know, having scared myself ***tless in a Corvair.

And, having done ships and planes, if we move on to cars next answer this one:

What were the world's first series production turbocharged road cars? And don't say BMW, whatever they may claim.

Close enough, it is the Tupolev Tu-70, the Tu-75 was a derivitive with a loading ramp at the rear............ O0.................Smudge

Right, TugCowboy. The Olds F-85 and the aforementioned Corvair.

Back to the Ascender, the Japanese, as I recall it, produced something remarkable similar - and equally unsuccessful.

Here is a picture of the tail first fighter from Japan.....Kyushu J7W1 Shinden, completed two flights for a total of 15 minutes in the air.  I think it is a nice looking bit of kit though........ 8)..............Smudge

Lousy photo, but you can just about make out the prop at the back as well as the nose.

This is how the piston/jet version of the 335 could have looked if it had gone into production. :o...............Smudge

That is a Caproni-Campini CC-2 N.1
A "Thermo-jet" fighter designed in 1931... sadly it never got anywhere, imagine if the Italians had had a jet aircraft at the start of the war!!  :o

Anyway.... my guess was vastly helped by the fact you left the aircraft name in the filename :D

Its the little clues that help ;D

I remember that it flew (was reported to have flown) from Rome,  Ciampino to Pisa and the average speed was rather less than if it had been powered by the piston engine alone  (it had a powerful piston engine powering a compressor with fuel burned in the compressed air stream)

whose turn is it?

Good one Alex, I see the clue I left worked as planned ??? ??? (I still can't get the hang of all this computer mumbo-jumbo.... :o :o).

The aircraft in your picture is an Hindustan HF-24 Marut, I saw one of these in the Bombay/Mumbai science park in 1988 when I visited during Outback 88 on the Ark Royal. It is a big aircraft, and was India's first indiginous jet aircraft...Smudge

Interesting, I was in "Olwen" during that little outing. Rather odd CTP in Pusan if I recall.
