Rudder Post

Hi Guys,

I need an answer for the morning if possible. I was going to make the rudder post for my springer from 3 mm brass rod to be inserted ithrough the rudder via the right diameter brass tube. The problem is I haven't got any. I have however got 2 mm rod and tube. Will this be okay for a basic springer with a rudder of just less than 4 square inches and a single screw??

Cheers in advance.

2mm brass may be a bit weak for the normal bashing around on the car back seat or in the boot.

Hi Footski

I would think (but what do I know ::) ) that brass tube will be more suitable for rudder post, as it is much less likely to bend and cause friction.
I think my rudder tube is about 4-4.5mm od, with another brass tube that runs inside as the rudder post.

http://www.expotools.com/
Expotools (page 202-206) do brass tube. One page shows sizes of tube that fit each inside each other telescopically. Just order the two sizes you need.

PS Don't waste your time looking throught the rest of the catalogue. It will cost you a small fortune. {-)
