Total madness of having to work on an anchor handling deck in bad weather. Shortly after this the Stevns Power was lost with all hands while servicing this very rig.

Lovely! If only Bovington had a canal, they could sail the LCT up for occasional demonstrations of tank loading and exiting.

Reminds me of the stories about the 'A' Lighters that used to travel to and from Tobruk in 1941 with supplies, tanks etc, and taking wounded and non combatants back along the Libyan coast. None of the lighters (LCT1s) serving on that route survived from what I recall, it was a hellish job. I look forward to seeing her restored and on display at Pompey!

My research in to my gunboat HMS Gnat told me about A lighters and I always wondered what they looked like. Gnat was torpedoed whilst escorting a convoy of A lighters on Oct 21st 1941.

Martin,

It’s amazing how the designs have changed over the years as to what a luxury yacht is. I wonder if the people who can afford them have models of them onboard or in their houses? Or not at all...

Re above, about 25 years ago I went to see professional model boat maker Malcolm Darch in Salcombe, I arrived by yacht as well.  He was making a mega yacht well actually two mega yachts, both the same size.  They had been commissioned by the owner one was to be a static model in a case and be displayed in the yacht, the other a radio controlled one.
Malcolm went to extreme lengths with his modelling even having cast propellers identical to the originals.
Here I had one of my first regrets.  He offered me a restoration he had taken on of a Bassett-lowke cargo boat, I thought there was  maybe not enough room in the boat to transport it and I turned it down.  We were in a Moody 425 (42.5 feet loa) and as it sleeps 7 and there were three of us there must have been loads of room!  (Moody boats, think Jaguar / Bentley cars).

Never mind!
regards from Oz.

A playlist of over 300 YouTube videos dealing with scale, or semi-scale sailing models.

The list should be in chronological order by upload date.

Time-lapse of the raising of KNM Helge Ingstad
« Reply #1263 on: March 18, 2019, 05:34:31 pm »

Very Interesting Time-lapse of the raising of Norwegian frigate KNM Helge Ingstad:

Refueling maneuvers of the Norwegian frigate KNM Helge Ingstad, sunk on November 8, 2018 after colliding with an oil tanker. The video includes four videos published by the Royal Navy of Norway, recorded between 25 and 26 February 2019 at the start of the refloating operations by the two Gulliver cranes, with the Luxembourg flag, and Rambiz, with the flag of Belgium.

Deleted post.  Seems the video I was trying to show works OK in preview, but not when I hit "post".  Hmm.
