( It poor / ancient Forum software.... fixed )   :-))

Trying something different. If this dowsn't work I am wondering if it is another Firefox issue. I have to press the red "A" above to get line spacing etc.

OK this is the problem - I use Firefox and to get the formating to work I have to press the red "A" button. If I then do anything llike "edit" then it deletes the  box. In this case I have put it back manually. It seems to be a Firefix problem.

Well it went wrong again. To get this right I have to press the "A" before I do anything else and then manually insert the  if it has disappeared. Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't.

very good jaymac.

In the dinng hall I could not see any ladies, what with the tearful farewells for what is just an overnight journey it could have been the ship of doom.  Perhaps it was diamond merchants special outing and not meant for comment by the lower ranks?
A very sombre video altogether, but the harbour at Amsterdam was interesting.

Watched a video by accident on you tube the other night - better half was looking for english thrillers - up came 'Across the Water' (Lake ?) . Story about Donald Campbell and K7's final run  - well played by Anthony Hopkins - had never heard of it before . Apologies for no link but it was on her laptop not my PC.

I've been watching the Tally Ho renovation for a while now. It is an amazing feat, more like a total rebuild from the keel up. It looks like even the leaded keel bottom will be re-cast now. The owner/renovator brilliantly explains every step.

Foxtrot Eight was one of four smaller landing craft used by Portsmouth-based assault ship HMS Fearless to ferry commandos and their equipment ashore at San Carlos in May 1982.

It has been restored in Boathouse 4

Leaves you wondering if, although all of the test pieces came from the same plank, there was a variation in the strength of the wood along its length that was a determining factor.  Or maybe some of the glues had the ability to soak in better than others.  Or were there differences in the test pieces ability to absorb?
But a week of being clamped?  Not many modellers would do that.

A rather subjective presentation, however unfortunately, does not ask some important questions for model boat builders

1. are all PVA base glue fluids the same?
2. if all PVA base fluid glue is the same, why do some manufacturers offer varying Levels of Water Resistance, then others not quote these values
....[in the USA, misleadingly called Water Proof]
3. if PVA base fluid glue is marketed with a shelf life, or use by date, is a 2000ml bottle more costs effective than a 250ml container
4. do furniture manufacturers use bulk 'No-Name' PVA glue?, or bulk 'Trade Named' PVA glue

With my dear old Dads woodworking fun in retirement, he used a PVA glue from a 375ml glass beer bottle he "bartered for" with another retired Bloke who had a 20 litre drum of PVA glue ...this Chap worked for a well known Australian Chemical Manufacturer before he retired, and reckoned all PVA glues were the same & didn't have a shelf life  {-)

Hi all, I watched the PVA video, I have some queries on the leverage there effectively was on the glue joints but the key point was the clamping while drying.  A few years ago I had a long joint to make (20 odd inches) and some of it I clamped and some due to access I used strong spring clips.

To my chagrin a while later I realised I had made a mistake and needed to cut the glued wood off and start again it was a left / right handed problem.  This was about 2 or 3 days later.  The difficult to get at parts which I used clips on were easily sliced through as the glue had formed a fine crystaline structure and although firmly in place the wood was not quite touching.
When I got to the clamped parts then the wood failed before the glue did, the joint was as one with a wood to wood bond.  I never bought any more spring clamps after that, I only use pressure clamps and screw clamps.
Regards
Roy

Anyone remember Tim Hunkin?  I think I'm just old enough to remember the original TV programmes from my 'youf -they're not unfamiliar anway.

I'm working away from home (properly) for the first time in 12 months so have been hammering internetradiouk for radio 4, then netflix and youtube for entertainment.  I've been watching all his old films and some of the new ones.  Glad to see he's still going...

https://www.youtube.com/c/timhunkin1/videos

...Mostly 25min films so not too intensive each time.  I like his dry sense of humour and "matter of fact" style.  Enjoy!
