Not anything to do with marine matters but I found this video of how the tail turret on the Avro Lancaster works to be quite fascinating. Many of us are familiar with the lonely position of 'tail end Charlie' and when you make a plastic model you can frequently twiddle the turret from side to side.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wi5Cf1ntqOI

The actual engineering of the turret is mindblowingly complex however and just eclipses anything we do in our models.

CruisingTheCut  273. The Little Ships that saved thousands of lives (plus other classic boats)
Quote
Jul 26, 2022   Rescuing hundreds of thousands of stranded Allied troops in World War 2, the Little Ships of Dunkirk are little miracles. Several of these historic vessels were on display at the Thames Traditional Boat Festival at Henley-on-Thames. I went along to have  a look at all the spectacle and to hitch a ride on Little Ship "Aquabelle".

One of the dozen or so narrowboaters I follow there on YouTube.Canals have long been an interest, often a low key, simmering on the back burner, kind of interest, and the advent of the internet sure helped feed that interest.
Don't know if I'll ever build a model narrowboat, be it static or operational, but the thought has crossed my mind.

A handmade Japanese iron kettle can cost over $300. For centuries, artisans have made kettles by pouring molten iron into molds and hammering them out once they’ve cooled. These kettles often have beautiful designs but they’re only used for boiling water. You can buy a mass produced stovetop kettle for $20, so what makes these kettles unique? And why are they so expensive?

:o ...not sure how the driver completed that turn to stdb & stopping without smashing the vessel?

I used the term driver, as I don't believe a Skipper :police: would attempt the same

It's because it needs [ html ] BBC, (Bulletin Board Code) which is a bit like giving the scammers the admin password,
you can upload almost anything with it!

Any videos you want previewing Andy, just let me know.   :-))

Holly - The Cafe Boat
Aug 5, 2022
Our narrowboat gets stuck and it's nearly disaster getting free again. Then we go and meet some alpacas, do some home improvements and get ready for a weekend trading in Atherstone.

Quote
For those of you just joining us, welcome! We're Vic and Jo and we've been narrowboating around the UK for the last few years on our 54ft narrowboat Zero. Last year we decided to give up our jobs in the city and add another boat to our fleet in hope of turning it into a travelling cafe and becoming full time boating baristas.
Follow us as we learn the ins and outs of business on the water whilst cruising around the UK.

Go to the 15:35 point where rail camera at Fort Madison, Iowa, catches an on-the-fly tradeoff between towboat pushing a barge and what I'll call a relief boat coming in and taking over.
If I did this correctly the video should begin play at that point,

On Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, there's a summer tradition: "mail jumping". It's a bit dangerous, a bit ridiculous, and would never be allowed to start today. But it's a tradition.
Pinned by Tom Scott
And to answer the obvious question: yes, there are other ways to get the mail delivered these days. But it's a tradition, and one that a few lakehouses are happy to continue!
