Freebooter Spec's
LOA 45 inches,  Total Hight 44 " (keel to main truck), Hull 34" Draught 9", Beam 9"
Control 4 Channel HiTec 40 meg (ie; 1 Rudder 2 Square sails, 3 Fore & Aft sails, 4 Guns)===
All sails can be reefed using jack-line reefing or furled for Foul weather sailing (max Force 5/6 when fully reefed down,, the photos show her in a force 4 to 5)
  5 of the guns can fired, ( the 18 pounder "chase Gun" or 4 of the 18 pounder carronades)
I know the next question I will be ask is how do you fire the guns.. the answer is simple ...you set sail for your local frendly Tesco's and secure a bag of party poppers (£2.00 for bag of 50) then return to your home port !) dismember one of the poppers and remove the firework (( Should I mention here that I take no responsebilty for blown off fingers etc; Use common scense and don't pull the string???) Drill a small hole (1.5mm) in the breach of the gun and feed the string through the hole from the inside ...attach the string to a suitably mounted survo ..and bang away ... for added smoke add a little talc

Thank you Dave,  :-)
Its nice to know other people enjoy your work, I have great fun building model sailing ships and even more fun sailing them. People say of me that when I build a model I never finish it and basically thats true I allways like to tinker with them to make them look and sail more realistically to me thats half the fun of model making :-))

In answer to your question Freebooters hull is Glassfiber, It was an X-mass present about 6 or 7 years ago Bought from Mobile Marine (Just the Bare Hull) I beleve they still supply the hull but haven't a clew to the cost She sails extreamly well, has a good turn of speed and is a very good heavy weather boat when reefed down

I must say this model is amazing, I wish there would be models like those on this forum around where I live. I know someone has some nice boats, but it's not often you have the chance to see them.

"Fire Drake", Barque rigged Privateer 36 Gun's  Mid 1600's
  Hull was a gift toy Pirate Ship "Kings Ransome", Razzed with two & a Half inches chopped off the poop and Quarter Deck and 1 inch cut off the hight of the Foc'le, the Beak head was lengthened by 2" and the head rails were made of lead strips (much easer to work with than laminated wood) and an extra 10 oz of lead was added right aft to keep her from Griping (The hull comes with a cast brass ballast keel that bolts to the keel)  The original gun ports were sealed up and new ones were cut on the main deck Frigate stile (4 guns on each side can be fired using party poppers to give a bang and a servo to pull th strings) The motor and propshaft were removed (Poor quality and  leaked badly)
 Sail control is by 2 x 100/1 geared motors with the shafts comming through the deck and a capstain barrel fitted too the shaft (Made from small wooden drawer knobs "handles") The one mounted on the fore deck Controls the fore sails and the spirit sails... The one mounted on the quarter deck controls the main sails ... The lateen mizzen is self tacking..
Power is suppled by a single 6V x 3700 battery pack from Modelpower this lasts approx 6 hrs... All sails can be furled and/or reefed using jackline reefing And a much larger rudder was fitted LWL is 29" LOA is 40"(Boomkin to Bow Spirit... The boomkin reeves in for transport)She's a good sailor for the rig and can make about a point to windward.

Do you own, did you make both ships and are they based on the same hull?

Dueller
 "Freebooter" The Brigantine Was built on a much modified hull acquired from Mobile Marine (The keel was extended by 3" and the extention is made entirely of lead. The shape of the forefoot was changed and deepend and the beakhead and headrails added)
   The Barque "Fire Drake" is shown in two stages of the build ..I didn't like the way the headrails looked at first, so they were changed to give a more rounded look. Two of the pictures show her sailing under a temporary  trials rig (sprite topsail, fore and main topsails and courses and lateen mizzen) She proved to be very fast but a bit slack in stays and she tended to gripe (lift her rudder and become hard to steer)when running before the wind. To overcome this the main mast was moved aft 2" and 10 oz of lead was fixed in the hull as far aft as I could get it. The spritsail was added and the fore and main T'gallant's this gave a better balance... She know sails quite well but because of the type of rig is not very close winded only at best about 1 point into the wind ... having said this she tacks and wears very handily and is great fun to sail...  Also being one of a kind she ensights a lot of comments and attention when sailing :-))
Hope this answers your questions

"Fire Drake"The Finished model has light gangways fitted between the quarter deck and the foc'le and a bulwark 17th century Frigate stile which changes the profile some what wile this isn't strictly accurate time wise as she's a Privateer not a Naval vessel  {:-{ so I can fit her out the way I want to and don't have to stick to the Navy Lists of the time. There were hundreds of vessels sailing under a Letter of Marque ( License from the Crown) to attack enemy shipping and some were fitted for more than 50 guns and there are no descriptions of the vessels or their Riggs so who can say I'm wrong
