Thankyou Larry
Heres wishing You and Brenda a splendid Yule Tide and a Happy New Year
Health & Safety and The Church have really spoilt the Hol's when this was a Pagan Holiday there were Fires in the fields with tables filled with food
and barrels full of Ale and Mead and nobody was ever turned away
Now H&S has banned the Fires & The Church was never Keen on Pagan Rites and look at all the Fun an Old Pagan like me is missing ...I've even got to walk 2 miles to the Pub

Larry
I found this Photo of Freebooter shortend Down (for strong Winds) The Top Gallant (T-gallant ) is furled and the main topsail has been struck. This greatly reduces the windage and allows her to be sailed in up to 17 kt to 20 kt winds (Frorce 5 to 6)

Also included is a Photo of Huntress (this was the wrecked hull of Norsky Love 70 gun ship o the  Line (Danish) which I Razzed to make a 40 gun Frigate She used to sail very well but being 20 odd years old she is now in Honorable retirement

Hey jimmy, Huntress is a realy nice ship, but why retire her ? :) whats the reason behind the strongly curved foot in your squares ? (i mean i can see it`s used to clear the stays, but why are teh stays so out of geometry as to have to make teh sails like that ?

MB,Dave301& Larry
As I said the hull was of a static model Norsky Love 70 guns but the hull was only single planked and the chains were allready fitted when I started rigging her I found the chains were in the wrong positions for a working model  so I had to make adjustments also rather than shorten the masts to carry less sail I opted to cut the Topsail  & T'gallants  high in the foot , This gave me a tall rig which looked good ,sailed very good in light W/x and was also able to carry sail in moderately heavy W/x

Its been too ruddy cold to work on the "Splinter"so I have been spending time on the topsail schooner "Wyven" shes been sailing with out setting her Square topsail for over 2 years ( I nicked the winch to put in Fire Drake) so as this is a job I could do in the warmth of the front room and with the Bosses permition Hear go's

The first shot is with the topsail furled (as she's been for the last 2 years
The next two are with the topsail rigged awaiting sheets and bow lines
more pix to follow in the next few days

I'm off to the Bahamas for a sailing Hol . June & July,Lovely, The trouble is the crew I'm sailing  with... They would make any selfrespecting Buccaneer run for shelter ... Their leader is an Irish wench "The Boss"she alone would put the fear of the Gods into any man and she's got 3 daughters  and 2 Granddaughters and a friend to back her up thats 7 of them and only Me and my son in law >>>Help !!!
Any way heres some more pix of Wiven

Heres some more pix Iv'e streamlined the rig and put out riggers on the fore sail sheets to keep them clear of the shrouds . This puts a lot less strian on the rig

All the Screw heads will be painted with a colored varnish so you will be pushed to spot them at all also all the new wood work will be painted (or varnished) but the decks ,bulwarks & ship sides will only be touched up ,,, After all these are honorably battle scars and the signs of a hard life I think they add to the ships looks and character not detract from it

She sails realy well and is a lot hander in stays and with the extra sail area shes a lot faster ( because the yards can be braced up so hard she also dosn't loose much ground to windward) and sails about 4 points off the wind , so I am realy happy with her though I will make one or two mod's like extending the out riggers about 1/2 " to keep the sheet clear of the standing rigging
You will have to post some pix of your cutter

No Problems Brooks
Ive been developing  this system for 30 odd years and find its the easiest and most efficient of all the ones that Ive tried the Flags and Pendants are less likely to foul and at most times look like real flags ... Its not perfect but the best I have  been able to come up with. The real thing is to find light weight ribbon it doesn't matter if it's a bit transparent  (Real Flags can be transparent when they are dry)

%% Agog with following your thread which I have only just latched onto. Looks a really great fun model. i think I have looked all over but wondered a couple of things like her overall length? about 90cm (excluding sprit)and beam (no idea). How about ballast weight/ Does she sail with an additional keel at all. I hae been considering a build like one does and I like the fore and aft design with the sail frigate era of construction.
Hope you June july sail did not run into Pirate activity!! All the best from down under.
