My wife is very supportive of my hobby and I of hers (she draws and paints). She has even helped me double my workshop in size at considerable expense. I also have a thing about owning tools and I love to buy and use tools of all descriptions. I also like to buy my wife the tools she needs for her hobby and in the kitchen (another of her passions is cooking).

However, my problem is I make myself feel guilty when I enjoy modelling so much and keep thinking of the chores I should be doing ! We have a large house and a very large garden so there is always  something which needs doing.

WORK one four letter word the obscenity checker always misses.

Retirement - now there's a beautiful word. Almost 12 months now - wonderful.

I've found that refering to your boats as models, calling them 'she', seems to do wonders for my reputation in the pub/bar!  Telling how you rubbed her bottom down, or 'did' her superstructure, is particularly appreciated...

Retirement is just great. I enjoyed my work, very much, having a hard, demanding and senior role which gave me little leisure time and ended up giving me a double heart by-pass!

Now I am a fit, retired and happy man. Not only do I not miss my work, I have also forgotten most of it and when former colleagues and my kind ex-secretary send me updates I have to scratch my head to remember who they are talking about! I try to tell them "Got the tee shirt, got the scars (literally!)" but they persist.

I just have to remember, it was work that gave me all this.......

After a life at sea, it's the people I miss (or some of them !) not the job itself. Don't miss that in the least

When I was working I enjoyed most of my job immensely before I became "senior" and got caught and locked up in the office.  I certainly dont miss that part of the job, but I do miss the workmates.  Roger makes a good point, "It was work that gave me all this."

Been retired for 10 years.  Most fun I ever had working, but got to the point where it was really work to do the work.  Decided to let them younger guys have all the fun.  Promised myself that I would sit and do nothing for a year!  Did, but that year turned into several years and it was hard to believe how borred I got.  Went out to eat one day, had a 'wild hair' and asked if they needed any help, by the way.  They did, I started the next day, and while working takes a big bite out of modeling time, I'm having a ball!  Geez, I hate to say it but I'm making as much $$ doing this stuff as I did when I retired!  Ain't that a hoot?  (And you ain't lived till you've made 40 gallons of pizza sauce by hand! - lol)

Like Roger in France we have moved to a new house in another state which is over 900 miles from where we lived previously
and I said to the wife I would like a better workshed than what I had at the old address, so with her in tow we went to look
at new sheds, the concrete floor goes down in two weeks and then the new shed goes up the next week it measures
56 feet by 26 feet, should just about have enough room...

By definition "No shed is ever big enough"!

My new workshop was partially designed to house a very large (24hp, diesel) ride on mower. But it gets in the way so will have to go in the garage to free up more workshop space!

My 'shed' is a nice 5 metre square brick structure with heat, light, music & phone, all wired to the main house alarm system. Previous occupant was a Triumph Stag, but now it's all full of workbenches, power tools and models, and the current Saab lives under a car port, have to get the priorities right. More finished models reside in the dining room, which sums up the boats v relationships thing quite nicely. Wife is forbidden to dust them though.

Thats one thing that does not happen to my shed/workshop is anything else in it but my machines, tools, and models, the stationwagon stays in the yard the bikes in the carport and the mower up near the back fench, there is no vehicles to tresspass in  the shed period...

Talking `bout "sheds".....- just have visited a friend living in Switzerland. Some comerads use to say he lives in a double-garage, with a bedroom and a 8-room workshop.
I found out they are right!  ;D
And mates- believe me, I will not miss work when I retire. Just having a look over all the plans and drawings to be done will took another three lifetimes....  ::)

Now I have found the Lady, which is interested in my hobby as well and want to have a own boat. What`s next?  ::)
