Recommendations for a charger please?
« on: August 10, 2008, 08:10:13 am »

Hy Guys,
I have various batteries that need to be charged, they range from 6 volt ..7.2..8.4...9.6.. to 12 volt, , is there a charger on the market that is switchable for different voltages. Any help on this would be apreciated.
Many Thanks

Are they all the same type i.e NiCd, NiMh or SLA? If they are all NiCd or NiMh then yes you can get one charger. If the 6v is a an SLA then it will need a different charger.

Look at either Model Power or Component Shop for suitable ones.

If your batteries are NiCd or NiMh then one charger will do all. Check out  Component Shop.

As Barrie says, SLA need a seperate charger.

Or you can get one that does everything, including Lipos if you ever go down that route.

 Recommendations for a charger please?

My "Smart" charger ... isn't so smart any more, it won't cycle batteries any more so I don't even trust it to straight charge them.

I only want to spend £40-£50 quid on another one, any recommendations please?

( Must do NiCd, NiMH  and lead-acid)

I went with this for NiCd and NiMH

http://www.component-shop.co.uk/  Third charger down at £13.49 in charger section. Does mean you need a seperate lead acid charger, but you should be able to get one around the same price.

Ive just brought an Icharger 208b from Hobbyking its $169 us so a little out of your budget, there is a 106b which is $109 ore there are a number of other smart chargers there like this
http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=7028&Product_Name=Turnigy_Accucel-6_50W_5A_Balancer/Charger
charges Nicad Nimh 2-20volt lead acid as well as all the lithium chemistries
$37 US
shipping to the antipodes takes only about 10 days

Their price on the lipos has killed Nixx in my and a few others opinion over here. I just got  3 cell 5000 mah (10 cell nixx) for $30US and 4 cell 14.8 (2 6 cell nixx equivalent) for $40 US  did a trial on the booster motor of a Moonraker, the lipo half charged smoked the fully charged nimh stick packs
sorry wandered off topic a little just a very happy customer of this company

Have a look at the Sigma 2 EQ ,its not expensive and does the lot.easy to use try model shop leeds.
You can buy a set of multi plug leads to save having to but them individually,or make your own.
