Hello Everyone-I'm New Here!
« on: August 10, 2008, 12:55:14 pm »

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd introduce myself to you all, my name is Jack and i am an R/C boater!

I have two tug boats, the first one being an American Harbour Tug. And the second one is 61 years old, it is a Thames tug, called the "Cullamix", which is currently in need of restoration.

I love the Orca from JAWS (check my display picture) and hope to make an R/C model of it later on in life!

I am also a Piano Accordion player, and i play Irish and Scottish music, mainly Traditional. e.g. Jigs, Reels etc.

Thats just a little bit about me. :) ;D

Dear Jack,

Welcome aboard! I joined what I think was about two years ago, but it seems like a lifetime!!! {-)

You can't wish to 'meet' a better group of people, always extremely helpful and pleased to help out. Mayhem and it's members have been invaluable and very good to me one way and another, and I am certain you will find the same.

Regards, Bernard

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the nice welcome, its very good of you all, its nice to be able to go somewhere that has a nice community  ;)

Lots of you have requested picture's of my tugs, here they are!

This is the Cullamix, as i said above, it needs restoring, i'm currently in the process of taking the old "gear" out, as its just not practical for modern day use, unfortunately.

She is 61 years old by the way haha :o

Here is an image of the stern, you will notice its got a hole in the deck, that was to get to the old engine, as there was no way to get into the engine "compartment", strange i know, but as soon as everything is sorted i'll pop the deck piece back in there. You'll all see pictures of her when she is finished as i know you lot like pictures ;D {-)

Just a quick image of her prop and rudder etc.

here's an image of the old system in her, engine near the top of the stern (which has now been taken out), a small shaft to a set of cogs, the bottom cog is attached to another shaft leading to the prop. i want to take that out as i feel the newer system is much better, really.

--------------------------

Now, moving on, this is my American Harbour Tug, which is in need of some work too, but is in full working order. It just wants a general tidy up really.

I'm "based" at Fleetwood Model Yacht And Powerboat Club, by the way. O0

Hi Jack

Great weathering you have there. ;)

If you are going to do a restoration a restoration log on this forum would be very interesting for many of the members, especially if it had pics. There are also one or two restorers on here who would also be able to give advice.

Welcome aboard

Hi There!

yes, i will be making a restoration log (with pictures), is there a special section for this or does this "Chit Chat" section do?

Thanks for letting me know about other restorers here, i might get in touch with them! What members in particular restore the boats?

Thanks, the "Cullamix" was given to me by an old neighbour accross the road, he built it himself, it even has water tight doors inside, he was a very intelligant person, he made lots of things. But anyway, i like the older boats myself, tugs, trawlers etc.

Thanks for your nice comment O0

Cullamix was a Model Maker plan designed by Bernard Reeve. The plans are still available through the Model Boats Plans Service: http://www.myhobbystore.com/ProductsList/mcs/CategoryID/90/GroupID/4/CatName/Plans%20-%20Tug/v/294aa711-6d16-451b-8d9e-bb4c81c02182

Hi There,

As far as i know, this version of the Cullamix wasn't built off plans, especially not from a website, since she is 61 years old, i wasn't given much information on this Cullamix model and was only told that the model is 61 years old and he built her himself. :)

Thanks,
Jack.

The Bernard Reeve plans probably date back to the late 1940s or maybe a bit earlier so it might be within your timescale Jack.

A lot of the model plans in the various collections go back a surprisingly long way.
