Be fair Ron

There are hundreds of tourists who just come and look at the boats and never ask a question. And if boaters started talking to them it might seem a bit back to front.
But the few visitors who do ask are made very welcome.  I was. They even let me play with thier boats.

You do need to introduce yourself, don't expect people who are busy at thier hobby to assume visitors want to talk.
Mention Mayhem as well, that is a good 'starter for 10'. Another good reason for mayhem baseball caps methinks.

We are all a bit shy.

I have to say Tiger I was just about to press the button on exactly the same sentiment!!

Without inciting a heated debate here surely conversation is a two way thing?  It may be equally valid for the guys with the boats to question why the tourists never bother saying hello and to stand there expecting them to come to you and start conversation is not making yourself seem approachable.

Let's face it Stavros has been accused of some things in his time but being quiet is not one of them!

Mention Mayhem as well, that is a good 'starter for 10'.

I stood 3ft from him and said, us mayhemers get every where, he carried on rigging his yacht, its not as though we had not met and spoke before.

You probably caught somebody at a bad moment.
And if distracted they may not have heard you.

I found the Llanberis lot most freindly and was even offered beverages and hotdogs.

OH RON !!!

I can't really talk about the activities at the lake yesterday as I only called in there for about half an hour on my way back home from the South of France, but I can assure you that the people who were there, and are in your pictures, are VERY friendly. Especially when spoken to.

There is usually lots of conversation and banter and if a visitor mentions they are interested in boats then they are greeted with open arms. Yes -  Stavros can get very engrossed in what he is doing, especially when fixing and rigging his models, (its not unusual for him not to hear me at such times) but  its more often difficult to STOP him talking - not the other way round.

Dont let it put you off coming to Llanberis, say to one of us " I'm into model boats" or some such thing and you will get a very good welcome. (Say it loudly though - some of us don't have too good hearing as we grow older !!)

If anyone, modellers or the general public, ask about the models , they always get a reply and polite and informative answers despite the somtimes repetitive nature of many queries (e.g how far can you control them etc).

I can see a couple of members in your pictures that started modelling boats and joined us after simply showing they were interested on a visit such as you made yesterday.

EVERYBODY is welcome at Llanberis.

Incidently there were not as many modellers as usual there yesterday - quite a few are on holiday

Dear Stavros,

Looks like a superb venue when the weather is kind. If I can get time away, and the conditions are as superb as those in the p.graphs, I would certainly like to bring Belfast next year.

Regards, Bernard

You can read too much into a picture

They all look engrossed in what they are doing to me.
That doesn't mean they would exclude anybody.
