Simple question (s)
Simple answer:
2 wire motor is a Brushed DC motor - reverses simply by reversing the polarity of the 2 wires.
2 wire motors will (generally) run if connected directly to a battery
If you were driving it by an Electrionic Speed Control (ESC) this would generally do the reversing for you (boat and many car brushed controllers have reverse built in)
3 wire motor is almost certainly (if the wires are all the same sizes) a Brushless motor. This is actually an AC motor and therefore NEEDS a Brushless Speed Controller to run at all.
(Do not connect to a battery directly!)Reversing Brushless speed controls are available, but not yet common.
All (3-wire) brushless motors can be reversed by changing any two of the wires (I do this with a switch and a 3rd channel since I have a forward-only brushless ESC)
This is rather simplicated - hope it answers your question
