MMM tug Afon Alaw
« on: August 21, 2008, 01:13:14 pm »

Has anyone built the tug "Afon Alaw" from Mobile Marine Models? It looks very nice and chunky (powerful lines). It would be great to see some photos and hear of building experiences.

Cheers

Aaaaaaaaaaaahhh!.....fame at last. O0
If you want anything specific photographed, let me know and I will try to help out.

I would try to get my motors further aft if I did it all again, and perhaps a better thought out ballast system.
She runs all day on large 12v battery that feeds both motors, same ESC supplies both too, her bow thruster is home made and uses a standard ni-cad racing pack and its own ESC....both Electronize 30 amp models. The working winch uses a smaller home-made ni-cad pack and an Mtroniks speed controler.

She has 70mm kort nozzles with 65mm kort props.
The wheelhouse is detachable from the deck house, as is the mast from the wheelhouse for ease of transport & storage.
The aft deck access is a large hatch that is sealed by 'freezer tape', works great and no leaks. Never need to get in there really as I can access the electrics etc through the main hatch, other than to change a crystal, all I do there is place the battery.

I have also found some detail pics on the net that I would be happy to sort out copies if you like?
