ORSV "Punta Mayor"
« on: August 25, 2008, 04:32:52 pm »

Here are some photos that I took this weekend in the docks of Barcelona. This is the ORSV "Punta Mayor". At first when I saw the vessel I was convinced I'd stumbled across "Aziz" or "Arif" under new ownership and I was really excited! It wasn't until later when I compared the photos with those of "Aziz" that I realised my mistake. I felt very disappointed! Nice ORSV all the same.

Cheers

That's exactly what I thought! It really is very similar, although it would mean altering bits of the hull outline, the bridge and funnels. Not sure about that colour though?! If ever you lost your model through sinking (why does that seem familiar?!) or because there were loads of boats on the same lake, you would easily find it!  {-)

I must say, I'm rather tempted to make a go of this when my, currently on order, Aziz kit turns up.

If I required any of the pics in larger scale do you still have the original files?

Hello Alex,

Yes I've got the photos in higher resolution if you want them (you'll have to give me your email address). There are one or two orthers that I didn't post as well. If you do a search on Google for the "Punta Mayor" there are more photos on other websites and there is also a video of the vessel in action (YouTube I believe). It would be very interesting to see your construction of the model (on the forum) if you decide to proceed!

Keep us posted and all the best

You are right there Martin! It's a bit like the color scheme of "Comenda" (ex-"Yorkshireman" salvage tug). Not sure why this colour is chosen - probably to do with high visibilty out at sea. Passing ship crews wear their sunglasses when the "Punta Mayor" is near by...

The Salamento Maritimo ( or The Society of Maritime Safety and Rescue, SPAIN). Has a good web site with more pics of the Punta Mayor and other rescue vessels.

Heres the link, you may need google translate if you cant read spanish
