Recipe of today: Mushroom (volo)vents?!
« on: August 21, 2006, 06:37:26 pm »

Delicious little beauties, served on many MTB's, MGB's, tugs, trawlers etc.

Ingredients:
1/4" OD balsa or similar dowel, thin plastic tube, say 1/8" OD and furniture pins (look like great big drawing pins).

Method:
Cut dowel into 1/4" lengths, 1 length for each vent required.
Drill through axis of each dowel piece: hole same size as sharp bit on pin.
Cut plastic tube into 3/8" lengths, 1 per vent.
Paint all parts, including pin, as required.
Slip 1 plastic tube onto 1 pin, then a dowel piece, CA glue together.  Hey presto!  1 mushroom vent.

Serves:  As many as you like!

On that reasoning you could always buy a RTR boat. Saves oodles of time - but do you really own it ??? ???

... no, I wouldn't buy a RTR boat (even though I've got some unmade kits gathering dust on top of wardrobes - probably we all have, don't we?) so I understand your point about owning it...

However, there's middle ground here - what if the parts are provided in white metal form in the kit? Whilst we all admire a scratchbuilt model and envy the skills of the modeller, most of us can only dream of being that proficient...!

First things first - stage One has got to be to complete a full kit - which (I guess - see evidence on the forum, and for many different reasons) most of us struggle to achieve anyway! ;)

Well I am for one...!  ;D

Cheers, Brian

Whoa!  Only trying to help chaps, just passing on a hint/tip!

Why did I make the vents?  I had the bits knocking around anyway, I didn't have time to go to the model shop and there were none in the fittings kit.

As I said it was MY opinion. It was not my intention to start a flame war or criticise anybody.

Cheers
