Unidentified sub
« on: August 27, 2008, 03:50:32 pm »

Can anyone identify the attached sub hull, rescued from being thrown away.

Its going to need a fair bit of restoration to even become a surface runner. Once identified does anyone have a set of plans or similar for it.

Thanks
Andrew

Hi,

It looks like a WW 2 German type V11 b to me probably a scratch build going by the saddle tanks, and the tower.

Type VIIc WW2 era U-Boat Andrew possibly by Krick. If its plank on frame then I think there was an r/c kit like that 20 or so years ago if its a GRP hull then likely to be younger. Plenty of plans for VIIc's out there. I've attached the only set of VIIb plans i've got ( U-47 Prien's sub of Scapa Flow "fame" )

thanks guys for the quick and very helpful replies.

Its definitely a grp hull.

Should be a good challenge just to get it to be tidied into a surface runner.

(should be a bit easier than the U47 I picked up recently which was almost fully built, but not very well !)

That's not a very early Darnell U-47 is it?

I think its got to be a Krick as I was working my way through a pile of magazines which were also being thrown, and have found a torn part of a plan which identifies a sub and the manufacturer as Krick.

Having said that Ive looked at current pictures of the Krick submarines and would hazard a guess that someone has been using poetic license with this model as the dive fins bear no resemblance and there are a few other cosmetic issues.

Still got about another 100 magazines to work through so perhaps some more of the plan might turn up !!

Does anyone have contact information for Krick as it would be useful to see if they have spares etc.

Kricks were never glass hulls AFAIK.

IIRC, there was an outfit based in Wales which produced a stand off scale Type IX a few years back. I'm pretty sure they came with a dive module with a water pump based ballast system.

I agree with Gantu, does rather look like a Type 9. One or two more detailed pics would help with this one.
