« on: August 31, 2008, 09:30:49 pm »

Whilst surfing the net looking for aerial shots to help with layout ideas for a scratchbuilt military type ship, I came across this ship moored in Portsmouth, can anyone identify it for me please

Looks like the Triton, an experimental design to evaluate the trimaran hull form. See: http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/trimaran/

Thanks for that,
Everything else moored in Portsmouth looked normal, and then I came across this ship.
I thought it looked weird from the air - the side on shot on the website is even stranger

The RV Triton, as she's known, was a RN Ship, although never commissioned. Just used to prove the viability of a large tri-hulled combat vessel. I believe the tests went favorably.

She was sold about 3 years ago to Gardline Marine Sciences  where she was converted to a research vessel, but since January 2007 she has been contracted to the Australian Customs services for patrol services.

Theres some more info here:

Alex

P.S Yes she's already on the "to do" list ;)

If it was sold 3 years ago, it just goes to show that the images on Flash earth are years old
