Fleet radio control...
« on: September 02, 2008, 05:17:07 pm »

Anyone know what servos and ESC's are compatible with Fleet radio gear? Can I use Futaba bits with it?

I've just bought a Fleet tx/rx/bits and bobs from ebay, and now I need two micro servos and two small ESC's to go with it.

Cheers,

Rich

You can use any normal servos, esc's etc with Fleet kit, but you MUST swap around the ground and power leads (Red and black). Fleet did their own thing here, which is irritating, but easy to rectify.

Top man Andy, that's just what I needed to know...thanks for that.

Rich,

My 20 yrs old Fleet set is still going strong and has been used on Fleet and Electronize ESC plus Futaba and other servos without problems. The vital point to remember is, as mentioned above, to check the plug connections and swop cables over as required to match the Fleet setup.

Cheers,

Cheers Barry...I always liked the good old stuff like the Fleet range, Futaba M series, etc. Built like brick outhouses and simple enough to repair yourself.

You'll also have to file off the little widget on Futaba plugs (the bit that prevents you putting them in the wrong way) to make them fit the Fleet RX. JR plugs fit no problem.

Hey Rich,
You are not sure about fitting a plug into a Fleet set yet you can repair them?............That is fantastic! 8)

Hey Kit1947,
??? I still don't see any hint of sarcasm. I guess ones eyes see what they want to believe. That's the function of emoticons!

There! I've drawn a line under that.
Now back to a point made by Rich to which I agreed and expanded upon....
In my previous sculpture there was only a single Fleet ESC ,out of 100's (but it was actually repairable).
I only upgraded but never had to repair a Fleet Tx or Rx.
That's only a small part of why I endorse Fleet stuff.,despite a minor incompatibility problem with Futaba Rx's
Here are two pretty pictures of the mentioned ESC guts.

I didn't say I could repair a Futaba set, I said they are simple enough to repair yourself....

Gary,
Futaba M series (before chips.).........T'aint worth it unless it's a fault in the encoder.
Can be easily diagnosed if you have a scope and voltmeter
I'm not volunteering,I'll simply tell you how to check if you can take pics. 5 mins max of my time

p.s. I'm thinking between post #4 and #9 Rich must have had a proper look inside his Fleet and seen the spaghetti!  {-)
