Trying to make progress on HMS Onslow at 1/96 scale, all quite slow due to family and work commitments coming first.

Was hoping to get her done for the 80th anniversary of the VC action she took part in, but that's not going to happen! Maybe Mayhem weekend 2023??

Currently going old school and building a Vintage Model Works 36" Launch kit. Progress paused at the moment due to DIY and household maintenance to be completed by XMAS.

Nothing at the moment - work is getting in the way - and I still have not tried to sail Victory although she is ready to go, though I was considering putting some longitudinal sails between the foremast and main mast.

I also realised that my corvette turned 40 years old this year

    'hand painting using International Paints.'

Now that is real dedication to using full size originality Chris.

Working on a whaler from the 'Hav' plans to give me an excuse for not soldering all the railings for my 1/72 scale River and Freccia class... anything but that!

:-)  I was going to spray paint but kept putting it off as needed to do it outside and wait until the temperature and wind was Ok. Also some of the masking was going to be really fiddly.

It was comments from Colin that lead me to use it.

Still pressing on with my paddler, pond trials have been delayed by bad weather but I'm still adding detail.

The photo below was intended to demonstrate to Mrs B my superlative multi tasking abilities but for some reason she doesn't seem convinced....

That appears to be a nice little paddler, is it a plan you built it from?

The paddler is the ps Bilsdale published as a P N Thomas plan in the December 1972 issue of Model Boats. There is a 'bootleg' 1:48 scale copy online from a couple in Canada which I bought but which has some distortions. The project is to make a paddle steamer model at semi scale so I have taken a few practical liberties with it although it is still easily recognisable.

It is a good practical subject as, although it is an excursion vessel, it is based on a paddle tug design of 1900 and has a very full hull form which makes it much more stable as a model than the more common paddlers such as Waverley or Talsiman which have very slim shallow hulls which present difficulties in model form due to stability issues. The original vessel had independent paddles and so has my model. It is nearing completion and ready for pond trials and I have found it a very interesting project.

Hopefully it will appear as an article in the magazine in 2023.

There's always a nice buzz of anticipation when the building board is got ready for the next project.  Mine needed a good rub down and a coat of paint or two to get rid of all the old blobs of glue, pencilled markings and reminders to self, scratches and gouges.  Now all ready to go.  Can you tell what it is yet?   :}

No?  Well, not many clues I admit.  I am embarking on a build of this -

The boat name shown on the box says "Quick'n'Easy" but I don't think this build will be either - but all the materials and instructions are very good quality, so if I slip up I can only blame myself.  Looking forward to the challenge!

I have a Vliestrome.  Kit went together well, the only problem I can remember was getting the wire "hydraulic lines" symmetrical on the crane pistons - took a few tries before I was happy. Sails well with a pair of 360 motors on 7.2v but being flat bottomed strong winds can send it sideways at a rate of knots!

Hi, all, Just bought a Panart BRUMA kit, deciding how I shall build her but has to wait while I am having a 6 week break in Oz.  Will use the time to work things out.  For instance plank on frame without a baseboard, once before I almost ended up with a 'hogged' hull.
She has sails and I am sorely tempted.....

Greg,

Are you going to log your build on here? They're always so informative and I like the way you show mistakes as well as the good.

Here's hoping and a great looking boat :-))

Cheers Dale.

Mistakes??  How dare you!! The correct term is "learning opportunities"!  %%
But in answer to your question, yes, I am about to start one.
