This years model tugs
« on: September 05, 2008, 05:27:33 pm »

these are some photo's of the two models that I have built this year

the first is of the steam tug Napia 3/8" to the foot

the second is the motor tug Vanqisher  also 3/8" to the foot

Both were built on the scale Hobbies Moorcock hull with some alterations made and the superstructures are scratch built.

lets try these for size ::)

this one is the Napia  built over the last two months  using a fibreglass hull for the Moorcock but heavily modified, the rest is scratch built from photos, electric power 12v Robbe 1,000 motor and 80mm prop.
The original was built as the Empire Jester in 1943 for the Ministry of war transport 1200Hp triple Expansion steam engine,
Purchased by William Watkins ( LONDON) Ltd in 1946 and eventually sold to Greek interests in 1971  she finaly went for scrao in 1986

This one is the Vanquisher,  once again using a modified Moorcock hull
the same 12 v electrics as the Napia but with a slightly smaller prop 75mm

the original was built in 1955 and was the first diesel powered ship towing tug on the thames, 294 tons 113'x28'9" 12'7"
1,280 Hp 8 Cyl British Polar 2 stroke engine.
She had showers and Bathrooms at a time when the steam tug men were still washing in buckets.
in 1976 she sank while undocking the Jervis Bay from Tilbury Dock ,and was raised re fitted and put back to work she was scrapped in 1982 not a long life for such an unusuall tug.
I Have also added one from the medway Knights tug the Knighton fully scratch built plank on frame at 3/8 to the foot
