Weather!
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:36:36 pm »

Just spent the last hour struggling to keep the garage from flooding during a cloudburst - and due to fly out from Gatwick early tomorrow >>:-(.

And I live in Surrey. According to the news, a lot of you lucky lads further west are getting it even worse.

Last gasp of Summer?

I really feel for you all in the UK at present after your totally lousy summer there. I'm in the south of France at present and the summer here has been very hot and sunny for weeks (apart from a few recent days of violent thunderstorms). Even on the cloudy days the temperature has not dropped below 27°C. Most days are in the mid 30s unlike most of France which has not been so favoured. I hope it improves for you...

Sorry to hear that Dan. I've had the same situation myself so now everything vulnerable is raised at least three inches off the floor as the water never seems to be more an an inch and a half or so deep. Earlier this year I got fed up with the situation and built a concrete "dam" across the garage entrace about 2.5 inches high. It certainly saved the day this evening. All being well i shall be in Turkey this time tomorrow where the forecast is Sun and 35 degrees, can't wait!

We haven't escaped up here in Cheshire with heavy rain almost all day.

It's still chucking it down outside.

Isn't Mount Ararat in Turkey Colin?  See if you can find that missing Ark - it may come in handy?  {-)

One of my members emailed me to tell me he thought he saw a married couple by the Ribble loading animals two by two onto a large wooden boat, about 300 cubits long.

What about all those dried up reservoirs from a few years back - tales of doom and gloom.
Silver lining?

Was in an engineering club for many years ago .

They ran 5" and 3.5" locos. Enjoyed myself and learned a lot about them.   O0

Far too dear for me so I went back to model boats.

Martin

raining again  :(

Dear Ron,

Fit a snorkel to the drum mower engine and get a wetsuit for the wife!!!!!!!!!!!!! {-) O0 That should do the trick!!! - no need for the collecting box... everything will float away next door!!!

(Don't forget Flymo's won't work too well though........... ::)).

Regards, Bernard

Yes true about the costs, in fact I cannot believe how cheap boats go on here for sale what with the amount of hours involved they are a bargain for such a great hobby O0 still lashing it down but at least our Victorian sewers can cope!

Cannot help but feel like we've been short changed on our summer yet again, just goes to show that all this talk on global warming is all bull and just another excuse to bring in more taxes.

I am combining my hobby with cutting the grass. I will be using a modified airboat to cut it, seeing its a soggy green patch out there.  {-)

5a.m. and its wet n raining again  Seems you can't beat the rain even by getting up early.  :-\

Yes it is surprising the prices of model boats with the work and attention to detail that goes into their building. But they can be built in a short time compared to a loco. Seen a friend the other day and he showed me his loco, which took him about 14 years to build. But what a nice 5" model it was.

I'm not so worried about the Floatmo not working too well in the rain. It's the idea of myself getting wet watching her do it that bothers me. Perhaps I should get the wet-suit for myself and just strap an umbrella on to her head. Should do the trick.
