Beautiful. Wasn't the "Waverley" the old ferry that was used from south Wales to cross the Bristol Channel to north Devon and which was withdrawn quite recently?

I have to disagree with you on two counts; first I live near where the ferry operated (during the Summer months) and its movements were often on local television (HTV, etc) and secondly, have a look at this link:

i don't think it was a ferry on a regular run, simon, but she does do "seasons" around different parts of britain. she is now on the regular south coast run, having just finished two months on the Clyde.
after the south coast she goes somewhere else befor her layup over the winter, before starting again next year.
so what you saw was probably her excursion season in the bristol channel, but not a ferry as such. neil O0

Thank you for the pictures, Smudge.   Very helpful for my little project.   O0

I now have quite a catalogue of her pictures from almost every angle. (and you need them too, for scratch building her.  ::) )

cheers

No Simon the Waverly was never a ferry running out of Bristol, she does however on occasions do excursions from Bristol.

Yes, I got the message the first time! However, the fact that it is carrying passengers from A to B, regardless of its peripatetic status, still means it is a ferry of sorts.

So I guess that makes the Queen Mary II and the Queen Victoria ferries, and not floating blocks of flats afterall.  ::) ;)

Good to see you back John! I've got a few ferry photos that I'm going to post soon (ones that I took in Spain).

Cheers

I'm looking forward to a trip on Waverley on 25th September. Portsmouth to Lulworth Cove and return. She isn't a ferry these days but an excursion vessel.

that sounds a nice trip, colin, i was on her around the Kyles of Bute in august. she sounds and runs like a sowing machine, and never misses a beat.
in fact two days before. she was diverted to an emergency call off the south of Arun when persons were reported overboard.
she diverted with a full complement of passengers, aparently at record knotts down the clyde to search, only for Cambletown lifeboat and an SAR helo to beat her to the casualty by a short head.
she's still got some get up and go in her even after all these years.
A true beauty. long may she sail. O0
