Hurricane news!
« on: September 15, 2008, 04:21:24 am »

Well, hurricane Ike slammed into the gulf coast yesterday morning. We had wind gusts of over 120mph until my anemometer blew away. Rainfall at 2 inches per hour for about eight hours. Minimal damage to my home, but lots of old oak trees blown down, power lines down, and our water and sewer sytem is out of service. What an awesome display of mother natures fury though. Standing on the leeward side of our bunker station, I watched it all unfold. An 18 foot storm surge pretty much wiped out the low coastal regions. Seawater as much as ten miles inland. God has been merciful, and my family is safe, and we still have a home, so no complaints.
Best Regards...Captain Jack

I hope everybody was as lucky as you Capt'n...Mother Nature can be an evil mistress when aroused.

And we in the UK thought we had a terrible summer.  :embarrassed:

Glad you and yours are all OK and that you soon return to normality (or what passes for it these days)

All the very best

I wonder how Shipmate 60 is getting on Bob rejoined his vessel the SD Newton in Florida on the 14 August to do trials in the area for a few weeks. I wonder if he has any interesting PICs for us to see.
