PS Waverley September 2008
« on: September 27, 2008, 09:01:14 pm »

I was fortunate enough to have a trip on Waverley on Thursday leaving Portsmouth at 10:15 and calling at Yarmouth and Bournemouth before sticking our nose into Lulworth Cove and finally returning to Portsmouth at 20:15. The ship is immaculate and it was a really enjoyable day. I thought some of you might like to see a selection of the 300+ pics i took.

You can't just say "Waverly". You have to say "Waverly - the last sea-going paddle steamer in the world". It's rather like the name of the prophet(PBBUHN).

Funny you should say that but there there seemed to be quite a few Eastern Europeans aboard. I don't know how the ship is crewed but for one of them it was his last voyage before retirement and we left him on Bournemouth pier with his grandchildren and a salute from Waverley's whistle ringing in his ears!

I love the sound of the boiler feed pump, which sounds like a slide whistle in operation.
