Repainting warship
« on: July 15, 2009, 04:00:03 pm »

Guys I am thinking of giving a new paint job to HMS Peacock, would i be better sanding the hull down and the starting from scratch repainting or could i just respray it leaving the existing decals on, that way their outline may remain and make positioning the new decals easier?
What paint would you guys recommend for modern RN grey?

Thanks

what about Plasticote grey primer ?

two pics are enclosed, HMS Arrow and celestia

The reason for the posting of Celestia is simple, compare the grey below the waterline to the grey of the warship.

this may be useful info, has the RAL numbers of the paints

i have been using sample pots of grey garage floor primer, these are tough waering and quite cheap, thinned down they can be sprayed as well!!
ps international or B & Q  own brand are my favourite, but am experimenting with sprayable hammerite at the moment as well!!

Also for warships they do a green which can be used for decks and a good coverage black!

all I did with Celestia - remove decals, filler on bow, sand the f**k out of it till smooth, and lightly sand the rest of the hull to remove laquer coat.

spray grey, allow to dry,
mask off lower hull, spray red allow to dry
mask off red and grey spray the boot line.

once all dry, give it a laquer - a full tins worth!

Nord Icelandia has 2 tins of primer, one tin of red, a tin of grey, and 3 tins of laquer!
