Radio sets
« on: October 15, 2008, 08:11:21 pm »

I am looking around for a 6ch radio set. Ideally, I need 6 proportional channels, or I can use 4 prop. and 2 3-way switches.

One of the difficulties I seem to have is when looking at the specs of various radio sets, they dont explicitly say how many channels are proportional or  switched (except multiplex).

The multiplex kit seems to fit the bill.

Can someone please tell me the set up of the 2.4 gig sets, how many proportional channels and how many switched and if the switches are 2 or 3 way.

As you building a submarine (kind of), I'd go for a 40mhz set for maximum flexibility.
I have Garupner with 12 channels, up to 10 can be proportional. If you have a little more to spend over the usual Futaba Robbe nautical sets, I'd reccomend Graupner (based on JR radio gear) for marine applications (you can change the 40mhx module to 2.4Ghx if you must go down that route)

Hi Ian,
My personal choice is the F14 Robbe Futaba with 2x normal proportional 4 way axis sticks and and 2x linear proportional slide switches set into the lower case.

You can add proportional and 2way and 3 way switch modules with the relevant expansion modules and decoder/s plugged into the TX and Rx.

I also use the F16 which is currently expanded up to 14 proportional channels and 3x 3way switched functions...sadly no longer made

Cheers

This mine, the standard set is 12ch, but this is expanded. The is an on-board software nautic module (so you don't need to by the expansion switch set) that expands 1 proportional channel, that allows you to use any fitted switch , controll stick and even the digital trim tabs as extra switched channel. All sticks, switches, knobs are freely assignable to any Rx channel via software and can be stored with the model memories.

Yes you can buy them in the UK, but the price is rather steep >>(

I got mine from an online shop in Germany when the price was a little more reasonable.
Heres the manual if you want to read up a bit more,

http://www.graupner.de/fileadmin/downloadcenter/anleitungen/4821.GB.pdf

Very easy to program and assign function (point and click using the rotary knob) one of the best bits I like is the option to increase servo throw by upto 150%, using the transmitter. something the Robbe gear doesn't do. I liked it so much I got a second as a back up unit.
