Hello! I'm gonna take a new direction in this project, here is one pic of the 3D-model I made of this boat. This time it's accurate. Next the model is transferred to IGES-format and that is used for machining. We are planning to machine this form from bluefoam, and cover it with fiber glass. This way the boat is becoming very light, strong and accurate. Looking forward to see what happens. I might be the first person in the world who has done model tests for a ship model!  {-) (I mean with my previous 'rehearsal' PV)  :-)

UUh,

I will stay and continue "early bird" version, I definately wont take a new track on 3D milled version, its been too much job already done.
But, yes I do know, by 3D  milling+ glassfibre, it could be a better one piece. Anyway, I am more than happy about its accuracy etc for now, also its been easier with electric one in matter of vibration caused troubles to hull etc, so I ll go with original plan, lets see what we get it finally, traditional or 3D to be better one?? <*<

Hi Hannu,
What sort of machine are you using to cut out the foam, Im slowly building a machine to do it.

this sounds interesting.........  I know you can buy 3d printers which you can hook up to solidworks and they will machine whatever is on your screen but these things are seriously expensive.

Helou,

Well, actually 3D milling machine is not mine, it is neighbours rc jet guy, who makes his own jet´s molding plugs.
It is home-made machine, I think new similar one could cost a lot, but this is made of using mainly "junk yard" parts.

Attached photos show my MTB Taisto 1:12 project launch made by that system, first "proof pce"  in smaller 1:35 scale size

there are plans to build them they are cheaper by the day , a couple of hundred would get you set up if you have a pc and are prepaired to do some woodwork.

I wish we had parts like that in our junkyard :o

Mines mostly MDF and stainless polished tube as the linear guides, at the moment I only have the X axis 90 % done.

I cant find that blue foam either although work has urethane foam.

Cheers, fellas

Here is short clip of Olli´s CY26 ccm-powered Watercat last weekend, it  seems to be very  agile.  ..and still noisy >>:-(

Hello, & greetings from Pickala pond, had a great time today  with 2 watercats, Olli´s gasoline powered was showing after keel modification
to be extreme agile %%

Here is some videos about Watercat´s "cousin" from  Sweden, called Stridsbåt 90 ( Combat boat), very similar hull design/power etc, running with FF410 jets

Hi,

well, hope that Watercat`s new modification is even more faster and more agile than Stridsbåt ;)

I am now awating new proto pieces of outer tunnel  parts of jet for testing.  Hope those will be completed before ice is coming

Hello guys!

Gasoline PV is finally silent! I got a new muffler from a senior finnish modeler, the muffler is a metal canister, inside there are several walls with holes which the exhaust gases has to pass. During this the sound becomes significantly smaller. Now it's possible to continue the project as this subject is out of the calendar. The boat in general is very agile, fun and easy to drive.

Best Regards, Olli

Howdy,

Have you tried to feed water into muffler, it could do it even more silent mover?

Hi,

Long time not much progress on Watercat, but now I have cutted off original kehrer-jet
end, new tubes are now 32m diameter. This evening also new more scale-like turning tubes where laminated.Lets see how they work..

Hello everyone!

Lot of time has passed since my last visit to this topic, but I really have
not sat still with my finger in my ass. So a little update what's going on.

I'm still doing this same project, well at least somehow. The basic concept is
the same, but the exact boat which I'm building a model of, has changed. The current
boat looks like this:

http://www.marinealutech.com/kuvat/1500-3.jpg

For now, I have modelled the hull with 3D-program and done it and the superstructure
of foam. I have also covered the hull with fiberglass, and taken the foam away. So,
now I have a fiberglass hull.

Last week I installed the waterjets (there's two of them), and on this week I have
done the engine mounting platform and stiffeners inside the hull. Tomorrow
starts the axle and gearbox installing, after that first test drive isn't so far.

You can find pictures from different stages of building process from link below:

http://www.pixbox.fi/alb_show_id979946_page0.html

Last some specs of the model when it's ready:

Length: 1,65 meters
Breadth: 0,44 meters
Weight: 19,8 kg
Engine: CY 26 cc, gas
Propulsion: 2 * Kehrer Powerjet 40 mm
Gear: MHZ Jet Gearbox
Other: Self-righting if capsized in heavy weather,
all lights working, rotating radar antenna.

Since the boat has two waterjets, it is possible to stand still, reverse,
rotate around it's own vertical axle, do crash stops and go directly sideways.
And all this with one gas engine.

Looking good Hannu, what angle do they turn through?

How are you going to change the reversing buckets?

Hi,

Steering nozzle radio installation completed yesterday, I think turning angle is closer 30 deg.  Reversing bucket stuff is next job,
I have foam originals ready, so  next 2 evenings job is laminating those buckets.

Attached few photos from weekend, Olli´s SAR - version of Watercat, called Kotka ( Eagle) ,  glassfibre cabin starts to get form

The cabin is now reinforced inside with glassfiber, I also repaired few things which were wrong in the shape of the cabin. Yesterday I made jet nozzles and steering nozzles, so also here only reversing buckets are still missing. I also started to finish hull surface. When hull and cabin are sanded, I start to install technical stuff, and then it's time to go for a test drive, jes. %%
