Keep the pics coming, it gives us mere power boat mortals something to wonder at  :-))
Any chance of a close up of the fore deck planking and tips on how you did it.

This really great to see the build. What do you mean by a length of 1580? sparred length, length on deck, waterline length? Ditto re width and heigth?  What is the ready to sail weight? Ooh and cost?
    Thanks

I'll try to make more detailed photos of the deck.
The length 1580 - length together with the bowsprit.
Height 1300 - the whole heigt of the model (hull+must).
Weight 9000 gram - the whole weight of the model together with the must, sail and ballast.
Ballast- 4800 gram
Price:
Valdivia kit - 513,77 Є
Ballast - 38,18 Є
Fittings Set - 173,47 Є
Power Set - 36,52 Є

The Valdivia is a fantastic model that I would buy in a heartbeat, if only I could afford one.

I will watch this build with great interest.

As has been asked, a bit more info about how the decks were planked would be very welcome. Are the planks pre cut?

The owner of my local model shop sold a Vladivia kit to a regular customer but sadly the old boy never started it because of illness. He gave the kit to the model shop guy who then carried out the build in the shop in his spare moments.

It was fascinating to see the progress and to eventually watch her sail so well.

She now frequently graces the shop window when not being sailed by a club member.

I was at the Dortmund show when Valdivia was 'launched' by Robbe .  I also interviewed the Robbe man ( my German was a little better then, than it is now!), who had built her, which was later published in MM.  I had the pleasure of sailing her on the pool there.  The pool is large but not so large for a sailinhg boat like Valdivia and he said that she needed a bit of power from the motor to turn her round when tacking.
Maybe the rudder should be a little larger?  Just a thought.
The upper masts drop down and he used to take her around in a Cleo car so she is quite easy to transport.

The model was drawn up from photagraphs taken on board while the Robbe Rep was sailing on her some years  previously.  He showed the album of photos to me as he expected that a model would be built, so they showed every detail..

If any builder wants more history of the boat Classic Boat magazine had an article on her about 3 years ago.  Try googling the name for further information.

The name Valdivia von Altona  was given to her by one of her owners who if I remember was a policeman and she did not have that name for long.  She has gone back to her old name now which is Vanadis.  I think she is available to sail on as crew if you want the real thing!

Hi boatswain

to echo others, a great model.

A question, are the planks pre-cut, or do you need to sort out the joggling yourself with this kit?

Hello

The planks do not pre-cut, I need to sort out the joggling by myself.

Been following this with great interest... I notice on the plans what seems to be a club boom on the fore staysail... Never been shipmates with one of them before and wondered how well it shapes the sail on a broad reach????? Looks a smashing model ---wish I could afford one --Though I usually scratch build

It's looking Great!  :-))

I've been a bit slow with my new version and have only gotten this far currently.  :embarrassed:

I'm converting a Valdivia kit to a Baltimore Clipper, adding a square topsail and a few other changes to make it look like a 1812 Topsail Schooner.

Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing more of your build!
