in need of a little TLC, this is the IJNS Yamato, built by a former member of the PMBC and Blackpool model boat club, she now has a new home, as I have taken delivery of this leviathan warship.

all that needs to be done is the basically re installation of the radio gear and a clean!

ready to sail now :)

Yamato is now heavier than sydney star, mainly due to her flat bottom, she wanted to sit ON the water, not IN the water. Yamato will me on the water at the Navy day :)

thanks ron, im going to be re working her power system soon to give her indipendent drive on her screws rather than the gearbox

I have never fit a gearbox to any of my models, have seen a lot fitted, they always sound noisy, good luck with the project.

If its the one I remember from the Tower show and Fairhaven lake, it was perpetually in need of rescue when sailed in reverse. The original builder had not taken into account the dip in the deck. Still, a good looking model when going forward.

malc, mine is solid :) the shafts are not the original kit ones, and she does not suck up water, the guy i purchased her off built it :) and either way, I love the lil ship :)

todays she has had her heart bypass, with 4 motors going in :)

yep, she originally had a 545 motor driving 4 props via a gearbox, (which whined like a cat that had been kicked in the preverbials!), now she has 4 385s driving 4 props directly, controlled by 2esc's in inboard / outboard combination.

Is that the Nichimo 1/200th kit?? If it is I had one of those as few years ago and she was the best model warship i've ever had ( even managed to sink an annoying teenage brat on the ponds at Mussleburgh due to Tx interference from a kid that just pitched up the other side of the pond !! , lets just say that fully ballasted down , 4 x 500's , 2 ESC's [ steering via differrential props the rudder aint worth the time too small ] that model was a pretty fast ship lol, the pointy bow hit the inflatable boat the brat was on puncturing it !!!

My only regret was selling it when my back gave out , she was just too heavy for me to lift.

4x 500 motors, yeesh!!! mine has 385s in, and i am quite pleased on her single channel steering:).

hell of a lot quieter now!

There was a programme recently on National Geographic(?) about the Yamato. Now lieing in two pieces on the bottom of the pacific somewhere. Japan sent her out against a large American fleet on her own with no escorts or air cover. Ship went down under heavy air attack when still some 250 miles from the American fleet. Out of a crew of over 3000, only something like 300 were saved.

a sad loss, but look at the Hood, one shot from KM Bismark and only 3 survivours out of the entire complement.

Ten-Ichigo was a suicide run for Yamato as she only had enough fuel for a one way trip, and was to have been the mother of all kamikaze strikes.

that program was on the history channel, I missed it :(

... there's a train of thought that says it was actually Prinz Eugen's plunging 8" shells that destroyed HMS Hood.... its a whole new thread of course, but an interesting one.... Hood was a pre-Jutland design, but she was also heavily modified pre-WWII. However, it was the lack of horizontal protection and poor tactics that finally led to her demise... :'(

some more paint

with it raining outside, out came the paint and Yamato getting some attention :)

her tertiary armament along her sides, and the repaired mast were repainted, making them blend better with the rest of the ship
