G'day,
For me, one of the best things about this forum is that it provides an opportunity to see the creations of others from all over the planet. I really appreciate the postings that include photos.
I see that this thread has been in hibernation for a while, so I thought I'd post a few pictures of my favorite boat in the hope that others will do the same.
This particular boat has become a some what of a collector's item. Most who have them, tend to keep them. Some of you maybe familiar with this boat from it's glory days back in 1993-94 when she won the then "Whitbread Round the World" race (1993-94) (Now the Volvo RTW) It is a 1/20 scale model of the W60 Yamaha RTW Yacht designed by Farr Designs (also the Endeavor and many other famous racing Yachts) This model is unique in the attention to detail and of the accuracy of the model. I am happy to report that RC boat sails as well as it looks, and is particularly comfortable in heavier winds.
A number of RC enthusiast in many parts of the globe, fortunate enough to have one of these beautiful boats, stay in touch with each other and share tips and photos with each other. If anyone seeing this posting has a Yamaha, let us know and please post some pictures of your boat(s).
Like many of you, I enjoy researching the the history of the original boats our scale models are fashioned after. A fact few are aware of about the Yamaha, it that there were two identical Yamahas build back in late 1992, one for the team to use for pre-race practice, the other for the actual race. Another interesting and little known "tidbit", is that both boats were raced in the same 36,000 mile Round the World race, but under different colors. The Yamaha Skippered by Ross Field, the other by Dawn Riley and an all female crew. If you are into sailing, the history of this boat is very interesting and worth looking into. I am happy to share my research with anyone interested.
Sorry mates, I drift. I have included a few pictures of my Yamaha RTW. Comments are always welcome.
G'day
