As a practicing egomaniac, of course I have more photos! Unfortunately the build took place befor the advent of digital cameras ( that were cheap enough for me to buy second hand! ), so no build photos. The model was built and is owned by three members of the Portsmouth Display Team, this arrangement ensures that we always have the model available for displays, no chance of someone selling it before an event. However, the debate about changing the yellow to an ochre has gone on for three years!!
The model is 43" from figurehead to transom and 60" overall, mast height is 38". The model has a drop keel mounted to the model via two M10 stainless studs. This only drops 2" but that eases transport of the model and with 13lbs of lead in a bit of scaffold pole hanging off the bottom it is enough.
It has two marine bilge pumps as bow thrusters and a 12v blower motor for main drive, when the wind isn't blowing.
There are two 4 shot cannon effects either side of the model, midships. Two smoke effects inside the ships longboat and the fore and mainmast can fall down on command.
Trumpet blowing time... It can also be seen in the film Run, Fat Boy, Run playing the part of a big headed Americans model, not much of a stretch for the operator!!
More shots from a windy Canoe Lake..
