Ni cad / Ni Mh charger 4 - 12 cells
« on: September 02, 2006, 10:22:16 pm »

Can somebody recommend a decent charger that will do 4 - 12 cells nicad and nimh. There seem to be so many on the market right now. Preferably one with a meter readout for the charging current.

Cheers

Try the MW charger as I have two and they are brilliant, charges all nicads and metals as well as sealed lead acid, and have even charged my motor bike battery, I cannot find a fault wth them, they also have a temp sensor so if you accidently try to charge with to many amps and the battery starts to get hot they switch of till the battery cools down..

I've got a Ripmax pro-peak prodigy 2, charger and discharger, which does 2-12V lead-acids, 1-14 cell NiCad and NiMH, and 3.5 to 18.5V Li-Ion and Li-Po. It works from a cigarette lighter socket or controlled 13.8 V transformer. You can set the charging rate and it tells you all sorts of things about how many Ahs are being loaded in, or something. One of these days I shall understand it.

I use a Ripmax Mercury EX charger, and it's very good.
I've found that the Powerplus type mains adaptors (around £25 rertail) supply too high a voltage for these types of delta-peak chargers. The high input-voltage cutoff on such chargers is very sensitive. I use a Great Power supply unit. Expensive, but a good piece of kit.
