MTB Taisto 1:35 scale.. eh streched to 1:12 scale
« on: October 25, 2008, 11:29:52 pm »

Hello,

Here is our old project,MTB Taisto (Taisto:meaning something like Battle) it was started a bit more than year ago, by visiting real pce home at Forum Marinum Naval museum, and gathering
old  drawingsmade by Turun Veneveistämö. MTB Taisto was based on Italian shipyard Baglietto MAS boats, but redesigned in Finland during early years of WW2.

Original was LOA 17,78 meters, equipped with 2 x Isotta Frachini engines apprx 1100hp each, giving 48KTS speed, displacement of 22 tons.

Our neighbour rc jet guy started digitalizing this boat drawings, for purpose to produce molds by his home-made 3D milling machine.

So, now we have get the first "proofing piece" ready, in scale 1:35, wich was also decided to be converted to rc.

Videoclip of first 3D milling pce:

Hi,

Thanks, I like it too.. saving a lot of hours, and getting it straight&symmetrical  by one hit :-))

Next step is to open deck of cabin area , and get motors & rudder servo in there.

It should get in there 2 x Graupner Speed 280´s,  I would guess that would be enough?

(scale weight is calculated to be 460g up apprx 500grams, compared to original one 20 - 22tne weight)

How big is it?

280's are for quite small applications.

I hope it is enough for pool run of this proofing piece(length 50cm), the actual upcoming piece is going to be size of LOA 1.48 meters, weight apprx 12,5 kgs.

That is planned to be equipped with 2 X Flyware T-REX 40- 400 10-pole  watercooled outrunners, each delivering some 3.15KW

I should think that 280's should be fine for a 50cm model of this type

Hello,

One more trial run completed, I added lead on tail, balance point is now apprx 2mm back from second "stair".

I have mostly used 2-series 1450mAh lipo, lighter one 800mAh seems keeping boat too light, it seem to prefer some weight more

Here is short clip from last Sunday, pond was  just about starting to get ice.

Looks like a great build of a very interesting subject! (I didn't realise one of these boats was still preserved in Finland) I'll definitely be watching this thread with interest.
Is the hull on the milling machine your current 1/35 scale model, or the 1/12 scale one?

Judging by the snow in your outdoor photos, it looks like you were lucky to find a pond without ice! I've found to my cost (the cost of a replacement prop!) that planing hulls do NOT make good icebreakers...

Hello,

Thanks,  well, the milling machine piece is 1.35, larger one will be possibly milled Xmas-time, I hope.
In the meantime, I am not totally sure, if "real" model will be made in 1:12 scale, friends are pushing to enlarge it a "little bit",
proposals has been 1:11 or even up to 1:10 scale, what means 1,78m loa for model..

Original Taisto is restored beautifully in its war time condition in Forum Marinum -maritime museum

Hi,

Thanks, Mick. I attached one foto via Forum Marinum, showing MTB Taisto in its original condition at Pansio Naval Base, where it was held for a  long time before it
entered restoration job
