hi there

footrails/toerails - the best way I have found of making these is :-)

either from Plasticard or a hard mahogany type of timber - the method I use to produce them is -

My preferred material - Plasticard - must be double the height of the toe rail;

1.   Mark the centre line down the full length of the material on the broad side

2.   Mark the positions of the openings;

3.   I then drill 2 small holes inside the marks for the openings and remove this area with a scalpel so that I am left with an oval shape.

I do this all along the desired length of the toe rail.

4.    When I have dressed all the raggy edges off all the holes I have made; I then split the timber down its length

This gives me 2 toe rails - have a look at the scribble below :-)

If you also have a look at the 64 ft Whaleback build in the Masterclass Section of this Forum - although I dont describe how I actually build them - which I should have done  ;) the above is the method which I used.
