ESC - what size to buy...
« on: October 31, 2008, 06:38:44 pm »

Hello:
Thought I knew this one....but.
The set up, 2 x Graupner Speed/Torque 720 BB,direct drive to a pair of 4 blade 88mm props.
The motors are rated at 13.5 amp stalled current load per motor, at 75% max efficiency.
I will need two ESC's,to complete my system.
I'm told I need a 40,50 ,60 amp ECS,is that overkill ????.
Will a 20 or 25 do,and be safe.I do plan to put in line fuses, and switches.
Looked in the post first, needing help.
Thanks
Tim

Tim, I would have thought a couple of 25A units would do the job, perhaps some of the other chaps can also recommend something suitable.

If the motors stall at 13.5 amps anything from 15 amps and above, but protect with 10 amp fuses.
But 88mm props do seem rather large for this motor.

The Lite version will do the job. Certainly works for three customers with these same motors.

Suit yourself............. but 88mm props is definitely going a bit strong.

It depends on the pitch on the props.
What model are they powering?

Hi Bob:
It's a scratch built 60" Navy LCM approx 1/15 scale. It will probably weight about 25 to 30 lbs. after ballast.
So unless there is a chart, or math calculations to do am I looking at trial and error ?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
