1/96 Stanchions ?
« on: November 11, 2008, 10:00:58 am »

Just a quick question.....

How many of you have put on the stanchions and railings on your 1/96 warships?  I am currently building HMS Sheffield which is obviously going to be a working model but all the railings on my 1/96 Fearless are all bent and snapped in a few places, is it worth putting these on a working model, what are your thoughts?

Cheers

I've bookmarked his site for a clatter of 1/72nd scale ones - along with ladder frets - for that moment I'll need 'em a few months from now.

Having fitted a few feet of Brass etched stanchions  1/96 scale on the Manxman I can say that you need to be extremely patient to build them ,have perfect vision to "Thread them" and be a dab hand at soldering.

I was advised by many to "buy" them instead of building them ,but they are very time consuming and I ended up making "jigs" to hold them in place whilst soldering them together..... but being stubborn I wanted to try it first ...I think I might be tempted to buy them next time

I would not put the ones on that you have got if they are bent and broken brass etch is the way to go all have to do with them is cut them off the etch fame and clean up the bottom end and drill a very small hole where they are going and insert them in the hole with a small drop of glue on the end of each one.
