major computer virus, beware!
« on: November 14, 2008, 09:44:43 am »

Please
Be Extremely Careful
especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on.

This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless email with a Power Point presentation
'Life is beautiful. '

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , and delete it immediately .

If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: ' It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful. '

Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon.

AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software ' s are not capable of destroying it.

The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself ' life owner. '

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY

I always suspect emails that say that, as being the scam itself........

As has been said on Mayhem previously, it is ALWAYS best to Google the scam notice first to find out if it is a hoax or out of date before passing it on. It looks like this is indeed a hoax.

any form of a chain mail is normally a hoax.  I just wonder who are the extremely bored individuals who type them up?  HA some of them are quite creative.  "pass this mail on to 10 of your friends and somthing good will happen to you at midnight tonight"  Totaly rubbish.  Hopefully email filters will soon be smart enough to send this stuff straight to the junk folder. Thankfully i dont get many of these emails but i recently just delted over 16,000 emails from my junk folder most of which are trying to sell me viagra.   {-)

Its just a pity that there isn't a simple way to chain them back to the originator.  A few times with a million or so replies to get rid of might give them pause to think before sending the rubbish onward.
For the third year running I have had a warning about the postal scam (PDS).  I wouldn't mind, but all anybody has to do is use the search engine that appears when the browser starts, put the appropriate word, phrase or saying in with scam on the end, and admire the list.  As Martin said earlier, snoaps is usually at the top of the list, along with hoax-buster.

I often got the impression that the people in the building who knew the least about IT were the IT department.  (With some exceptions obviously, Martin  ;D).  Times dont change that much.
