HMS Exeter
« on: November 22, 2008, 09:17:32 am »

Hi, I am relatively new to this hobby having only built one before.  I think I may have been over ambitious but have bought the plans to HMS Exeter 1:96, but does anyone have any detailed build instructions i.e. thickness of wood, general dimensions etc.  Thanks for your help.

hi Roy,
welcome to the forum, there are hundreds of helpful and kind people more than happy to help with your questions.

i haven't built HMS Exeter but i am building HMS Campbeltown at 1/96. The only wood i have used is 5mm ply wood for the hull, with deck supports underneath it, and the super structures have all been build from various thicknesses of plasticard (From 1.5mm and 0.5mm). if you bought it from fleet scale or sirmar, i expect you'll have the scale drawings and if you imagine the plans without the detail the super structure is pretty simple and not to hard to make.

feel free to ask any questions,

cheers, Dan

Is that the old Cruiser or the modern Destroyer?

Hi, I'm interested as well as now starting to research my next build the HMS (HMNZS) Achilles from the battle of River Plate era so any more additional information on this battle and the ships involved is greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Adrian.

... it's the one that hasn't used any cordite near the south americas!

Yes, I don't know what they see in modern 'soul-less' (and ugly) ships either?
