Go-Ped motors
« on: November 18, 2008, 03:52:35 pm »

Anyone ever fitted motors from a go-ped in their boats ?

They look quite big, and can run from 12v upwards I believe.

Any info anyone ?

No, but I have used a 12v electric trolling motor for a couple of my larger ships. I may throw most of it away but they are water proof, come with a mechanical speed control with reverse and run on 12 volts. And I have gotten them on sale for less that $75.00.

Looking at the specifications on the Net, obviously they can power a go-ped to a fair speed but Im wondering if thats with more than 12v of battery (Im sure I read somewhere they can go up to 48v but Im probably mistaken).

And that by running one off a sole 12v might give lower revs and a good bit of torque for a tug boat.

I'm think of using one of those electric outboards on our ride in 1:8 scale Clyde Puffer.

Hi everyone
I've built a Speedline 1/12th scale Severn and I've installed two scooter motors in it by courtesy of Phil Locke, who is very knowledgable in this field .
She's running on 36v and behaves superbly for a boat which weighs in at over 20kg.

Does this mean the build will take longer than last time?  {-) {-) {-)

100Watt at 12 volts, thats a tad over 9 Amps current drain! Hope you've got room for a decent sized battery.

Yeah but surely the 100 watt rating is a maximum. Unless you severely load the motor, I would expect the current draw to be significantly less than 9A.
