I am brand new to the forum and to modelling. I am just completing a scratchbuild early gun leander class frigate - my first model.
My wife has bought me a kit for battle class HMS solebay which I intend to use as the base for a model of HMS Aisne which was converted
at Chatham dockyard about 1960 - this was a major job including enlarging bridge- new lattice foremast with type 965 radar and everything
abaft the funnel being replaced.  I have many photographs from my 2 1/2 years onboard as a signalman and all the books published asbout
the class  but they are no substitute for plans. Has anyoneaccess to such plans or any idea where they could be obtained?

Thanks - Pugwash

Have you tried the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich?

Thanks.   When I tried to get plans from them for the leander they were going to send plans for Seawolf conversion
and didnt seem to comprehend that what I wanted was a leander as it came from the builders yard and they quoted
quite a price.  This was before I discovered Jecobin plans - quarter of the price and very good.  Greenwich was to be my
last port of call.

There are other plans produced as I borrowed them for mine at 1/72.
I have checked jecobin and he doesnt do them, they might have been Sanbrook plans (I think)

Thank you - I will make some enquiries - I know the very early 60s is a bit early for  Jecobin plans and a bit late for john lambert.
I will see if I can find out anything about sanbrook plans and let you know

Unfortunately they are out of production, I just wish I could remember where mine went.

But the plans I had were of HMS Agincourt.

yes I white ensign models did used to keep the plans but they are no longer in stock.
Definitely Agincourt is the one -  Agincourt, Aisne, Barrosa and Corunna were the four which were
converted - all with slight differences but nothing significant.
Looks like its down the the NMM - I  will try them tomorrow

Thanks for trying - Pugwash

WEM no longer stock these plans because Dave Sambrook sold the copyroght to Don at Loyalhanna  via me and Don  is the only source now. No problem with dealing with Loyalhanna , usually very efficient .

Thanks for the info - my wife says she has looked on their website and cant find any reference to a battle class
but I will check to make sure.  I will have to contact you soon re type 37 director etc, but I am determined to put the finishing touches
to the leander (HMS Juno) before I start on Aisne - Im just getting everything together for when I start.

Hi

I cannot help you with the plans on this project but you may also be interested to know of an excellent book that was published only 12 months ago,

'Battle Class Destroyers'
Author - Patrick Boniface
Published by Maritime Books of Liskeard, Cornwall
(Hardback) The book contains dozens of good quality black and white photographs and covers a history of every ship that was built in the class

Thought it might be useful

I e-mailed Don at loyalhanna and he has replied that he did have a set of plans but can't find them but will keep looking
In reply to Ariel - yes thanks but I have got the book by Patrick Boniface - also managed to get on abebooks a copy of
1971 book by Peter Hodges - though the photographs in the main are not as clear there are some terrific closeups of
details of the masts and other parts of ship. but thanks anyway

A reply from the National Maritime Museum - they do not have plans of the conversion - but have profile and deck drawings
from department of Naval Construction - Im not sure of the difference between plans and drawings but I will find out when
they arrive.  They will cost about £50

finally received plans from NMM.   They have so many plans for the ships "as built" but the deck drawings only put equipment which is to be replaced in its approximate
position witn notes like 277 radar on mast platform - but no details of the drawings - very disappointing and expensive error -- so if anybody is tempted -
dont waste your money
