Hey don't despair there are many a good helper on this site and with a little time you WILL be able to sort out the build,
Put some "try it and see ideas" into your model and a dry build always comes in handy
(dry build =  assembly with NO glue ) thin strips of masking tape can hold a lot together to get an idea of what you strive for.

Keep the faith in yourself to build what YOU want to build.

Hi Link43mk,

I'm most supprised to hear you have bad quality pics in your kit, all the Robbe kits I've built, the plans and diagrams were 'spot on', draftsman like quality!

Have you made an attempt to start building here yet?
If so, how far have you got?

Martin.

If the drawings are of bad quality surely this is a breach of the Sale of Goods Act? Complain to the seller - it's their responsibility - keep on complaining and bring in Trading Standards if necessary until you get what you paid for. We don't complain enough about 3rd rate service!

hi thanks for your comments and help  the built manual that came with this kit is a photocopy that's bad to start,so i have scanned the pics into my computer and then enlarged tem as much as i can, i can now make out most of the detail.what i found when i started was the manual said trim the hull but you dont have to be bang on the line as final sanding will take care of this.then on the next line it say's make a jig to score a line 40mm from the top,but if you have not trimmed hull to proper size this would  make the line uneven.that is just one mistake i have found and i am only on the first page of the build.

Hello,
I am quite new to all this, but wanted to help if I can. As other people have helped me. I have the complete instruction book and plans of Antje 11. No 1110
The Antje 11 was the first rc boat I have done. I am still changing things on her as I learn new things. Hope the photos come out right and I don’t get in trouble if I get this wrong. Sonic.

Hi Guys,

I'm building the Antje II, she's my first attempt at an RC model boat. My instructions seem OK and look much the same as yours Sonic.

Sonic, please can you tell me where you got the crew figures from. What motor, ESC and battery did you use. Nice looking model by the way.

Cheers, Chris

Hi Chris, it was my first rc boat to. May I say, take your time and don't rush things, read and read the instructions before you start.
I started without much knowledge, I have learnt so many things since then and still learning today. I made things a bit harder for myself as I wanted the lights to work by remote control, and the fish trays to move, also where to put the on/off switch without it being seen, but able to get at it, without taking things apart to do so. Also I wanted to get at things inside, i.e. replace anything that might go wrong. Don't forget sometimes you have to do some painting or staining before building.
These things you have to think of before you start building and gluing the boat together.
I must admit I did not get the Robbe Geared Motor or the deck planking boards, I cut my own planks. (mind the fingers) :-))
I went to the local model shop and had a chat to the owner and came out with Speed 600 motor a Hi-tec speed controller (now I use “Mtroniks Marine”) and 6v 4.5Ah rechargeable sealed lead acid battery. Also a Hi-tec 6 channel radio set, ( I wanted the 6 channel so I could use more channels later if I wanted) plus the chargers and bits and bobs. Think the owner rubbed his hands together a bit, as it wasn’t cheep, but you can get a bit at a time as you build the boat. Antje is 1/20 scale, and I found some Tamiya racing pit figures at 1/20, so I used them but I glued them as I wanted, mix and match, and not as the instructions.
Hope this has been some help to you, all the best with your build, and keep in touch. There are many more experienced guys on here than me, and ime sure they will help you out as well. Sonic.

Hi Sonic,

Thanks for the info. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I was busy at work etc., you know how it is!

I am taking my time with Antje and learning a lot on the way. Part of the fun to me is having to solve problems as they arise. It's all good for the learning curve and will help me no end when I start another boat in the future. I must admit I'm already looking at things for my next project and I'm drawn to the lovely boats at the Model Slipway.

One other thing I'd like your advice on is where you've fitted the receiver and aeriel. I can't decide whether to fit the brass rod as in the instructions or keep the one fitted to the receiver. I would like the receiver to be removable so I can use it on another model. There seems to be divided opinion on this subject as can be seen from post on Mayhem.

Cheers for now, Chris

Hi Chris, For the receiver I built a wooden shelf by the main battery box, and glued (araldite) it to the hull with two small eyes screwed in, so I could put some elastic (I used pole elastic as I fish and have left over bits) through the eyes to keep it in place. As for the Aerial This could bring some comments, what I did was to fix a wire around the inside of the deck before it was fitted to the hull. At one end of the wire I soldered a very small spade connector, (female) here it comes I soldered a male connector on the end of the receiver aerial. Do Not remove any length. Then just put the two together, and you can then unplug and remove the receiver, for the next boat. I have not found any problems in sailing her.
Hope this helps and bring some comments. Sonic

Hi Sonic,

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking of doing the same as you but was concerned about altering the length of the aeriel. As you have had no problem with it I'll probably do the same. You're right though, it will probably elicit some comments from other Mahemers, but that's what we're all here for to bounce ideas off each other.

Seems to me that there is no right way of doing things but there are many solutions to different problem and it's what's right for you that matters. I'm glad I found this site as it's good chatting with everyone and getting the benefit of their experience.

Thanks once again to all, I'll keep you updated as AntjeII develops.

Hi All,

Well it's nearly time for me glue the deck in place in the hull! I'm aware that this has to be a good seal and was wondering what advise anyone may have on this subject. I have fitted the wooden planking to the deck and varnished it so I don't want to get any glue on it when fitting it in. I was going to use the cyanoacrylate for this job but I'm not sure it will give me a good seal.

Any advise welcome please.

Cheers, Chris

Cyano might turn brittle after time, and there is always the risk of it 'wicking' to your new deck.

I always use epoxy resin, which is quite thick and stays on the rafters until you squeeze the deck down on to it. It makes a good seal and adhesion and will be most satisfactory. The thing to watch for is the residue squeezing out up the sides, so keep it away from the edges.

Hope this helps

Hi Chris, I used ordinary polystyrene glue as used for plastic kits the thicker tube variety, no water gets onto the deck in normal sailing conditions unless its raining!

Chris,

Try a very thin smear of Vaseline (or something similar) on the top of the deck, around the edges. That way if any glue squeezes out you can allow it to harden and then just lift it off.
