Hi all i am new to model boats and can any one tell me is the dutch courage a good tug to build and to start off in towing
this will be my first model boat i have do a bit of modeling on aircraft before

Welcome to the forum, I have just finished the Dutch Courage, and found it to be an easy build. One thing I did'nt do was, I did, nt put the crane on as I thought it would be in the way of the tow winch. Model Slipway are a great company to deal with, just follow their instructions and you wont go wrong.

Welcome Aboard Shipmate...

I am currently in the early stages of building the "DUTCH COURAGE" for use in Tug-Towing Competitions...

I am not using the normal runnung gear that is supplied wiyh the kit...I plan to fit 2 x 80mm Steerable Kort Nozzles with 75 mm Props...
These will be driven by 12 volt Hectaperm Motors...A working Bow Thruster is already fitted...

I have already built a Scratch version of this tug using a Mobile Marine Models "NANGEE" hull...Its a wee bit smaller than Model Slipways tug but it looks great...

Bosun...I made the crane on this model Removable so that it can be removed for Tug-Towing...An old Film Spool Container is the Base & my fuses for the Electrics are stored inside it...I also made a lower Wheelhouse/ Deckhouse for my tug...This convets it into a Damen Shoalbuster 2609...Similar to S "SEA ALPHA"

I will post send you some  pictures of the "SCOTCH PRIDE" if you wish...Tugspotters is a good site for pictures...

I have loads & loads of pictures & other information of this class of tug  (DUTCH  P ) Class...

I Have one of these for Christmas. I also wish to tow with not in competition thou.

any tips on how to strengthen the tow gear would be appreciated. and pic's if available
my first kit from Slipway but already have the feeling they are very helpful.

I intend to strengthen the Towing Gear on my build  by fixing a folded  aluminium plate up the sides of the hull & across under the deck where the Towing gear will be situated...
I plan to bolt this plate through the sides of the hull with countersunk bolts...

This should strengthen the deck enough to bolt the Towing Gear onto...The Working Towing Winch will be fixed to the underside of the deck at this point...

Just picked up on the thread again, I have been away working for a couple of days, will take some pics tomorrow and hopefully post them.

Hy Norry, I have,nt set her up for towing, but I think you know what I mean about the crane, it seems to be in a bad position on the deck, or is it just me.
