Ideas on a clear plastic dome.
« on: December 15, 2008, 01:59:10 pm »

Hi all
hoping you can help out here.

I am looking for a clear plastic, reasonable strong Dome, and to date have seen nothing that would do the job. It needs to be roughly 6inches diameter,(width) so about 3 inches tall,
grateful for any leads or thoughts.

Make your own.
Step 1:Take a ball or something else solid and reasonably hard,
Step 2 cut a circle in a piece of 6mm ply to the dia you want thwe dome.
Step 3 put your clear plastic on the ply and clamp down.
Step 4: heat it with a paint stripper and when it goes soft and spongy press the "ball into it to make the dome. leave to cool and go rigid,.

They do lots of other sizes and colours too.

Is a hamster ball too big? Alternatively, I'm sure I've seen some toys or whatever packaged in clear plastic hemispheres. Just a thought.

Thanks for these, certainley gives me a good few Ideas , I like the idea of making my own as suggested by nhp651 , as I would be able to make it specific to the job, had a look at the EMA site and think the flourescent might be quite cool.
Again the hamster wheel , never even thought about that .

Anyway 3 very good ideas  , all of which would probably work , just have to pick one now.

Thanks for your input

You may find one of those Xmas snowflake shake scenes in a dome the right size.

They'll be in the shops in a fortnight...
