Send a message to a past e-bay buyer and ask how they liked it. Sometimes you get good answers, sometimes they don't reply.

Hi Guys,
Even though I don't own one of these, I did live in Viet Nam a couple of years ago, and some of their boats are very well made. Can't vouch for this one though.
You can order direct from most of the Vietnamese factories, simply google for web-sites. Most of the big factories are very good and will ship well packaged. The Riva also comes in various sizes, and if you ask them they will also leave hatches loose (instead of glued down) so you don't damage them when you convert, also applies to rudder posts and prop shafts.
Their usual finish is a clear polyurethane, but glue type unknown (may not be waterproof) however a coat of epoxy inside to seal the wood and your laughing.
Best of luck, their have been a number of conversions to these static boats, and hope this is of some help
cheers

Yes as Kiwi says, different size models are built different ways, ie. built around a a spine that is solid from keel to deck.
Some of the small models, like 25" have very little room inside them!
I have seen a couple of models converted to RC but you're really on your own when doing it.
But if you can, hey, no finishing involved!  :-))

Craftysod,
My main concern would be in the actual conversion.
Is there enough room inside the hull for the radio gear.
Is the hull plank-on-frame, bread and butter or even solid!!
The only way would be to cur an access hole in the deck, whick might ruin the model.

I have a Riva Aquarama, about 35 ins in length, that I bought in the UK.   It was supposedly converted for RC but the installation was, putting it mildly, very substandard.   I ripped everything out, had to cut out some wood underneath the rear seat to accomodate the two 555 motors and one of FLJ`s combined mixer and two speed controllers (forgot the model No.), plus two 7.2v 3000maH batteries.   Now goes superbly.   Pete M

This looks interesting. Click on the classic speed boats link

http://www.gianhien.net/

They do a nice 67" riva replica. There is also a cutaway photo so you can see the construction. (scroll down)

And just to annoy people on the boat pond try this
